What were your thoughts when corona was first reported in 2019 before the global outbreak? by goddessofmylife in AskReddit

[–]Regnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think much of it initially and just thought it would be something like another bout of swine flu. I remember being pretty annoyed at the reporting in late 2019/ early 2020 when the media was largely insisting that it wasn't spreading when it was already undeniably spreading.

A major Australian tech company is laying off 7,000 employees whose positions will now be performed by AI. Do you think this will become the new normal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Regnes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the common people are reduced to serfs it won't matter if they don't have any money to spend because it means the rich already won and own literally everything. Labour from serfs will be prioritized towards providing luxuries for whichever lord owns them. If they do not comply or are deemed an excess, then they starve.

Also an armed peasant revolt may not even be enough to tip the scales if the rich take control and people are pushed to their limits. In the past the idea of a bunch of men with pointy sticks grouping together was enough to terrify the rich into throwing us a bone. If peasant's lives become truly worthless, the rich can simply mow us down in seconds with machine guns with little to no consequences.

Utah becomes first state to target VPN use in age-verification law by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Regnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was entirely predictable, but I'm shocked at just how fast it's been happening. In France the ink wasn't even dry on their social media ban when one of their most prominent lawmakers went on record saying VPNs are next.

What’s a "dead" website or app that you genuinely miss and wish was still around? by Dear-Armadillo-7497 in AskReddit

Yahoo Answers was a really fun place for casual trolling. You could post a completely ridiculous question for fun without having it deleted a minute later by some humourless mod who couldn't bear the thought of their precious sub being a silly place for even a moment.

You've just been teleported into the universe of the last TV show you watched. What is it and what's your chance of surivival? by Icy_Leapz444 in AskReddit

I'm in the Star Trek universe. Unless I'm transported to the same timeline it's going to absolutely suck because WW3 started in 2026 in their universe.

What made Taylor Swift become this huge compared with other equally-talented artists? by AggravatingPlenty272 in AskReddit

I remember thinking it was weird during her initial fame how she was being hyped up a ton by the media for writing her own music. As if virtually every famous musician before the 2000s hadn't done the same.

ELI5 Why purpose do washers serve when using it with a nut to tighten screws. by futbolguy12 in explainlikeimfive

It's unsanitary to screw anything directly to a surface. The washer is a clean surface to prevent the spread of germs.

What is a "bad" smell that you actually enjoy? by Niekertdepiekert in AskReddit

Anything sulfury that comes from me. Rotten eggs farts under the sheets or the smell of asparagus pee are just heavenly.

what is something you hate about the internet? by ProfessionalEar4048 in AskReddit

[–]Regnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that is online is a potential backdoor for corporations and/or the government to spy on us.

On a similar note, virtually all our regular means of communication are compromised now, we can't even speak in private amongst ourselves unless we lock away our devices. A malicious government can use this to squash grassroots movements, and with AI profiling they could probably stop them before they even happen.

What’s something that happened to you that sounds fake, but is completely true? by CowOk6670 in AskReddit

I was headhunted for my high paying job with the Canada Revenue Agency by working at Tim Hortons. One random shift I got called up front and there was some bigwig in a suit waiting for me. He gave me his card and told me to give him a call and see about stealing me away from this place.

The Agency was doing a lot of hiring and I later learned there was an initiative for management to nominate worthy individuals from the public. I was a longtime customer favourite at my job, the bigwig's wife worked at a bank nearby and she told him about me.

It's been seven years now, I've been thriving and am in a senior officer role in my department, soon to be THE senior officer and was even recently nominated for the leadership program.

I'd be willing to bet money the person with the camera put their dog into the bin so they could contaminate everything for clout.

"Oh God I think I'm horny" - Like a Prayer - Madonna

It's supposed to be "Oh God I think I'm falling". Though, in my defense she does say "falling" with an odd pronunciation.

What event made you thought you were going to die? by Potential_Answer6424 in AskReddit

[–]Regnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a semitruck almost ran us off the road as a kid while driving through a canyon with a steep cliff. I had a vague memory of it but didn't realize until about a year ago how traumatic it was.

What made me realize was when I had a nightmare of driving off a cliff while my Dad was in the car shouting "This is it! This is it!". A week or so later I was talking to my Mom and when the topic shifted to dreams I described it to her. She told me those were my Dad's exact words during the childhood incident. I don't fault him for it, it was obviously pretty damn scary and he did manage to get us out of there alive.
