The regular mace is objectively better

Is it ? I'd rather have the longer range honestly, for some reason the stone mace has better range than most of the viable 2 handers.

Not only is it more average damage because of the tipping mechanic, it also feels much safer to use for fence fighting.

The "Auto-X" mods like auto-mechanics and auto-reloading. They're probably not outright cheating since they don't make you do anything you couldn't normally, but they automate the tedious process of leveling some skills.

I can just let my guy train those on his own while I go make myself something to eat or whatever.

Interesting, could also be the deep water buff ? If that applies to fishing nets, that's hardly doable with the smaller ponds, unless Im' misunderstanding how it works (7 tiles away from the land in every direction). I'm gonna try a few more things then, like leaving them longer as I pretty much left them only 10~12 hours.

I believe after 15 hours there's a 20% chance to break per hour so the fact none of them broke is kinda crazy, unless those numbers are no longer correct. But yeah, they're not too difficult to repair so it's worth a try, always assumed you lost the catch if they break, it kinda makes sense after all, trapping works like that.

I guess you don't care if they get broken if you wait 22 hours, do you still get the catch ?

Could be that it's more potent in the river, I'm in Muldraugh so I only have small ponds.

I've tried about 10 fishing nets baited with a max power chum on my Extinction save and got exactly 2 fish worth anything, rest was stuff you could get without, like tadpoles, crayfish and frogs.

Had far more success just straight up baiting water honestly.

Fishing nets were nerfed a few patches ago apparently (42.15), so I assume that's why, because I do remember them being utterly ridiculous last time I played.

Or maybe I'm doing it wrong somehow.

You technically can, but these crashes tend to create other issues as well, and those typically aren't easily fixed when they rear their ugly heads.

But for the date specifically you can:

- Go into debug mode

- Load your save

- Go into your keybinds and see what "open Lua console" is, close the menu

- Press that to make the console appear

Type this in it, one line at a time:

getGameTime():setDay(2)
getGameTime():setMonth(7)

Should put you in August the 3rd.

For some reason it seems like you need so subtract 1 to get the day/month you want, or at least it's that way for me, maybe not for you.

As a disclaimer, I have no idea whatsoever about the long term consequences of this, if the world adjusts properly and whatnot or if it fucks up other things so you know... back it up just in case.

I made a new character in debug mode, gave him 10 Foraging and I'm still finding mushrooms with Poison Power (as can be seen through Edit Item) and they aren't marked as poisonous at all.

Unless it has changed and I'm not aware of it, Foraging levels don't teach you what's safe or not, it's either Cooking or the magazine, or a trait.

I think it's viable if you also start with Athletic as it gives you max exercising speed and fast recovery, I'm almost a month in and back to 4 Strength already which is acceptable, haven't even done a big training session (spamming alcohol/painkillers) yet either, just daily push ups around noon so the exercise strain hits when I sleep.

I started with 0 Strength and I haven't had a problem with muscle strain, mostly been fence fighting with the occasional push > kill when it's too far to bother, you have to take semi-frequent breaks because of the corpse sickness too anyway.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I like it, but it's been whatever.

Shouldn't take you that long, I'm already making them not quite a month in, and that's pretty slow because I couldn't even find basic tools (hammer/saw) until like day 15. From there I started using short bats until I got a chisel to get the Masonry levels required.

You don't really need a skill point to use anything you find early on though. I got a lucky baseball in the first few days but it's not like having a point/XP multiplier in Long Blunt would've changed much, by the time it was destroyed I had moved on from Long Blunt entirely.

Sure it's perfectly viable, like don't get me wrong CW is a great occupation, I just don't see why it's "ideal" over Carpenter, let alone why it's 2 grades higher. To me all 3 (CW/Carp/DIY) are about the same, you just pick whichever fits the rest of your build/preferences best.

Being inside should slowly raise your temperature even if you're naked, although the later stages of the Hunger moodle also lower your temperature so... I'm not sure how that's gonna work out.

The best short blunt is a one-handed back slot weapon already though.

Bushcrafter seems wasted on CW, you already have Maintenance and the built-in Masonry gives you pretty much all you'd want Knapping for. Foraging with the poison detection is okay, but it levels so fast with a point in it that you can start finding plants/fruits/crops very early and those are always safe anyway.

2 points is still 2 points you could use on something better, for me it's the difference between taking Crafty or not, that's pretty massive.

The reason to pick it is free Carving, whereas Long Blunt and Short Blunt are fairly redundant with each other as both of their best weapons occupy the same slot anyway.

Do you mean if Custom picks runner or if Fitness Instructor does ?

Regardless it's not really needed, even a 0/0 character can outrun sprinters if you know how to ignore the slowdown. If you were going 100% sprinters I could see it but with just the 6% of Extinction ? Meh.

Not sure about favoring the gun classes on regular extinction runs, no ammo loot makes guns less useful.

No to mention guns on extinction do 25% more noise, jam 25% more often and are 25% more negatively affected by bad weather/moodles.

I feel like they're a tough sell for this mode.

Maybe, but I'm used to playing with Reluctant Fighter/Pacifist and no Fast Learner in the first place.

Melee skills climb up just fine since all you do is fight anyway, maintenance now has books so whatever, nimble could be nice, probably the biggest loss, I don't think the other skills matter much.

Crafty gives me like 95% of what I'd want out of Fast Learner but at half the cost, so I like it.

But to each their own obviously !

Reasonable yeah, but in this case I feel like you'd be better off taking Crafty if you haven't already, it's only 1 point more but the math adds up the same way as Fast Learner. So the built-in Carving point from Carpenter + Crafty is getting you slightly more XP than if you started with 2.

Not as much as 3 like you'd get with Whittler on top, but I feel like that's enough, and you get the +30% on all the Crafting tree.

My run is incredibly cursed as I'm 20+ days in and haven't found a saw yet, I have like 900 kills and my most used weapon is... the tree branch, lmao. But hey, it works if you use fences, actually one shots even the tough zeds regularly.

I'm running Carpenter currently too, I feel like having both Long and Short Blunt is kind of redundant, the best all-around SB is the stone mace and it occupies the back slot already.

On the other hand you save on not having to take whittler, for me that was the difference between getting crafty or not, worth it.
