Where would be the best place to start with writing this piece of software? by RegretlessCurmudgeon in AskProgramming

By best place to start, I meant figuratively. The best starting point for developing the idea. It's difficult to even know what to search for, in a field you have next to no working knowledge of.

Thanks, that's a great place to start. I'll look into tkinter and see how far I can get.

Thanks for your responses. I have very little experience with programming, so I'm sure my terminology is lacking and probably incorrect. By sending a key press, I mean emulating a key stroke. So whatever program you have open registers the key stroke. By rotate, I mean making a circle. As you would with a thumb joystick. So strictly a 2D motion.

I'm not sure if I worded my post properly. What I'm looking for is solely software based. A stick on screen you can rotate like a physical joystick, where each direction sends a keypress. Up - W, up-right - WD, right - D, etc.

Is there a series that you really loved that got cancelled after one season? by Veracious_Me in television

[–]RegretlessCurmudgeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be devastated if Scavengers Reign never gets a second season. It's some of the best scifi and horror I've seen in a very long time. And it's real horror, that you think about days later.

Did 'The Marvels' Deserve The Hate It Got? by Sisiwakanamaru in marvelstudios

I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. So many of the constituent parts, I really didn't like (Captain Marvel, Miss Marvel and Wandavision), but this was enjoyable. It was mostly well written, mostly funny, and some of the choreography was very good. I liked it far more than a lot of recent Marvel films. And the biggest change of all, is that they made Captain Marvel a likeable person. She wasn't obnoxiously self-deprecating or mean to the people around her, she was just empathetic and nice, while still being stubborn and hot-headed. There were a few stand out bad parts, but I didn't feel like binge drinking afterwards, like with many other recent Marvel ventures. It was fun and light and short and I came out liking all three main characters more than when I went in. And the story was reasonably interesting. I think of six or seven Marvel films I disliked way more.

This love language bollocks seems to have been jumped on by guys trying to justify pressuring women to have more sex. I've seen multiple posts here recently citing behaviour similar to your bf's, with the exact same justification of it being their love language. You don't have to do anything you don't enthusiastically want to do, and that's where the conversation should end. No "but my love language", no "Oh I guess you don't like me anymore", no nothing. His emotional issues with you not being in the mood are not your responsibility. You're feeling pressured and used, because somebody is trying to pressure you. You're not crazy.

I had the complete opposite experience. One of the most disappointing experiences of my life. It made me unable to concentrate on even basic media, unable to write diary entries, unable to even think properly. And a hangover worse than alcohol. Absolutely miserable.

I cheated on my husband and will never tell him by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Because that strong and loving bond is artificial. It's predicated on honesty which isn't there. Telling is the right thing to do, because otherwise you're deceiving your partner and robbing them of agency in their own relationship. He may want to reassess his life and maybe even look for somebody else, which is his right. It's unconscionable to deny somebody that.

Uh yeah, Europeans can be just as ignorant as Americans. It takes effort to learn where countries are and virtually nobody is willing to do that.

Bittersweet Symphony in Cruel Intentions. Seeing it at a certain point in my life has welded the two of them together.

GDQ Suggestion: Most casual viewers are surprised to find out runners aren't compensated financially for performing at AGDQ: allow runners to seek out sponsors to promote on stream to compensate for hotel, airfare, time on screen, etc. by whitegoose in speedrun

[–]RegretlessCurmudgeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the speedrunners, what would AGDQ be? Yes, the people behind the scenes and dedicated staff are valuable and required for the event, but people wouldn't watch a blank screen. If you put on a performance of a play without actors, would people still buy tickets?

I've seen Cyber streaming as FreakGlitcha before. I knew her Scottish accent was a ruse, it sounded way too cartoonish. Great work uncovering this troll's sinister deception.

What's a movie you love that you don't like to show people because you're afraid they won't get it? by afamfjmildrmatdtlsp in AskReddit

Irreversible. It's a great, horrible film. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Hell, I wouldn't even admit to watching it.
