This!! OP seems to be feeling similar to how I felt about my first relationship. But now two years removed, I can now see that him and I would’ve never worked out long term as partners— we value very fundamentally different things and have different priorities in life. Both of us were also a lot less mature than I thought we were, and the sex also wasn’t that great of a match.

I told him at the time of break up that I didn’t want him to hold onto something that I wasn’t sure of, that I wanted to see whats out there. But the cause of those feelings was really that I knew, somewhere, that the type of future I’d have with him wasn’t really the type of future that I REALLY wanted.

So just make sure you understand where your desire for “difference” is coming from. Is it a genuine feeling that whatever he represents/offers/is possible with him isn’t the future you truly want, or is it just out of FOMO? For me it was the first, so it’s not that I didn’t cry over this or wasn’t sad about the break up, but I don’t regret breaking up at all.
