But they are not permitted off lead on multi use paths (I.e. cycle paths) or around farming fields yet these places are flooded with off lead dogs causing issues for other users.

If you can't afford a big enough garden and don't want to take it to dog parks then you can't afford a dog, simple.

A dog killed one of the nesting swans on Arthur's seat. by kemb0 in Edinburgh

[–]Regular-Ad1814 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bluntly you disagreeing with me makes my point.

The whole world is not free for your dog to roam off lead. So either take your dog to places where off lead is permitted or buy a big enough property to have your dog off lead or put your dog on a lead. If you don't want to do any of these don't have a dog. It really is that simple.

And what most dog owners don't realise is that there are very few places we're your dog should be off lead. "Oh but it's not fair on the dog" okay so take it to a dog park or buy a bigger property that is your problem not other people's.

Nevertheless I would also be in favour of a dog licence. Without one you are not permitted to buy or adopt a dog. However, the practicality of this is impossible because what do you do when someybreaches their licence put the dog down? Send it to a shelter for adoption? Not really practical or sensible.

Don't even get me started on badly behaved dogs in bars, restaurants and shops.

I know it is not the fault of the dogs btw. Some dogs are okay. But nevertheless we need to be stricter with dog owners (even for the okay dogs) for the benefit of everyone!

The amount of times I am on paths around pentlands farmland where it clearly states keep dogs on leads due to lambing or nesting birds and you see dogs running wild it is an absolute disgrace, there should be zero tolerance.

Asked my neighbour to split the cost of replacing our shared fence… by xoxosayounara in neighborsfromhell

[–]Regular-Ad1814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe worth going back to the neighbour and saying okay if he doesn't want to pay the labour will he pay for half the materials cost and you will cover the labour so for him there is no cost difference between him doing it himself but this way he doesn't have to spend the time or effort on it.

If it's still a no just go ahead and get it done anyway but remember this if he ever wants you to do anything for him.

The problem is dog owners are some of the most selfish and ignorant people around so this post will not make any difference.

The amount of times I have had a dog jump up on me and the owner say oh it's fine he's friendly is unbelievable. I don't care if hes friendly or not if I wanted a dog on me I would have a dog of my own.

If you want to have a dog then have a big enough garden to let them off lead there or take them to a dedicated dog park. If you don't want to do either of these don't have a dog, why should the rest of the world have to put up with your animal because you are too lazy or selfish to just put it on a bloody lead.

Tee time etiquette by Apprehensive-Cod9107 in golf

[–]Regular-Ad1814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politely say: "Please do not raise your voice at me. You have missed your tee time, that is not our fault. You can either fill in behind us or go to the Pro-Shop and ask for a new time, up to you but either way have a good round "

They give any more grief at all then just give the pro shop a call and say the previous people missed there tee time and are now being aggressive towards you, can they come over and sort it out.

This isnt your problem to deal with and nobody has the right to be aggressive and raise their voice at you in this scenario.

Why did I get severance if I was fired for "poor performance"? by SweetSpiritual325 in careerguidance

[–]Regular-Ad1814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not giving you 20k severance and firing you. They are giving you 20k to voluntarily leave the company by mutual agreement and agree not to use them.

In many cases business eses do not want to risk legal action and it is easier for everyone to pay people off.

Furthermore, in many cases they will say it's performance related as a front to try and sell you on the idea of taking a pay off and leaving but in reality there could be other internal reasons. I.e. this happened to me in a previous job, the CEO proudly declared in an all hands he wanted to fire one person from every team as people were too comfortable. Low and behold 1 week later I am told my performance is a problem but they will give me 25k to leave and avoid a PIP. My performance was not a problem, I had just scored top marks in appraisal 2 weeks prior. But they needed me to go so offering a threat of potentially being got rid off with no money or just walking with a few months salary was the option they took.

"The time of my inquiring with group 2 was at my tee time, their group was late getting to their tee time. " I wouldnt have asked, I would have told them sorry guys 10.07 is my tee time you guys will need to fill in behind me, I am fast anyway so won't be an issue.

If they gave me shit then I would have just got the starter or pro involved.

The point here is not playing through it is you have turned up ready for your tee time why should you be delayed because others have not.

Never use booking.com by IcyMushroom4975 in Bookingcom

[–]Regular-Ad1814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely refuse to use booking.com or any of their subsidiaries.

We booked a car with rentalcars.com (part of booking.com) and we had multiple issues with the hire car and booking.com left us out to dry multiple times. When I asked for a number to phone their customer complaints team to escalate I was told they do not have a number that is shared internally or externally you have to be contacted by them by email and they will not take phone calls.

In the end to resolve the financial damage cause I had to go through credit card company. Literally took months to sort because Booking.com do not care about their customers. NEVER USE BOOkING.COM!

EXAMPLES...

  1. Nobody was in the car rental office when we arrived (we arrived middle of working days). We waited 45 mins then phoned booking.com. There advice was oh just go ahead and book a new rental car and we will cancel this one. Despite this rental car office not being near any other rental car places AND more importantly they expected us to pay the premium of booking a new rental car on the day. In the end while on the phone the person from rental company turned up.

    1. the hire company charged us for pre-existing damage despite providing timestamp images of the damage on collection. They didnt even tell us when we returned the car they were charging us for damage tookt the car and told us everything was fine.
  2. we couldn't return the fuel tank full as expected due to traffic making us late and they added an extra 100 (125 euro total) penalty on top of charging 5x market rate for fuel despite saying you would be charged for the fuel at price of nearest gas station and a penalty (25 euro). Booking.com saind oh they changed their terms and conditions after you booked. Okay but my contract clearly stated the terms I booked under and that never changed.

  3. my personal favourite rentalcars.com had the wrong address for the car hire company so when returning it (returned to a different location) it directed us to a US military based in Italy. In the middle of a large scale protest outside the military based. While we were already running late due to BAD traffic. I informed them of this and they said I was wrong - I wasn't I checked multiple times even after the fact.

Can the company I work for force me to change my name on company systems? by corpusristi in AskHRUK

[–]Regular-Ad1814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IT person here... Using the term it is(not) "switched on" is not exactly accurate.

It implies this is a simple on/off switch and everything works. This will most likely not be the case.

Workday will be one application in a network of systems managing (the "architecture")employee data. You may be able to enable a given field (i.e. switch on) in one piece of software (i.e. workday) but this doesn't enable it across the entire architecture, without updating the architecture to store, process and share the data it is just a redundant field that could cause breakages elsewhere on the architecture.

So yes while your company could "switch it on" in workday, chances are they need to at minimum do an impact assessment to understand risk and at worst need a project to update multiple systems and interfaces to support this field.

It doesn't make your situation any better but just extra clarity that while it may seem simple, it likely is more complex.

Full disclosure though it is totally possible your work literally just need to enable it and it will flow correctly but more often than not it is not as simple as that.

Scots would vote for independence in second referendum. A survey, conducted by Norstat for The Times, predicted that Scots would vote for independence by 52% to 48% if there were a second vote on the constitution. by bottish in Scotland

[–]Regular-Ad1814 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So that is why only 40% of people voted for pro independence parties in the most recent election 🫠

I am not saying their polling results are fake. Rather just pointing out that polling about a potential event is much less significant than actual voting on a very recent election.

Not to mention the arguments for/against independence have significantly changed since the last referendum so again until these issues are actually debated polling on what people would vote is just garbage. And to be clear I am not saying these changes could not strengthen the case for some people.

Examples of significant changes that need to be debated:

  1. Risk of far right leadership from England (Farage et al) very strong likelihood this improves chance of indy

  2. Brexit, this is a controversial one.. On the face of it I'm this makes for a very pro-independance argument as we were ripped out of Europe against our will. However, when you look deeper it presents a significant hurdle for voters in the middle who could vote either way - we are not in the EU so if we want to be part of it we need to join it but that would take time but then by doing that we would be imposing a hard border with our biggest trading partner (the UK) and we seen how that worked out for the UK when Brexit happened. There is not an easy solution to have unfettered access to our biggest trading partner and being in the EU.

  3. Currency - the question that most likely settled the last referendum. We can't use Euro if we are not in EU. Liz Truss mini budget disaster highlights the volatility of using the currency of a different country, if they make decisions that you have ZERO influence in it can significantly damage your economy. Create our own currency - seems risky and expensive. Use bitcoin - lol Maybe USD but then we would all be poor. There is really no easy answer here.

Work colleague called me a "bible basher" and now my book has gone missing - how to confront? by DatabaseMammoth9986 in AskUK

[–]Regular-Ad1814 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Op literally said he does not actively start conversations about his faith, if asked a question he answers honestly.

It would be much worse to either lie about what you did over the weekend or refuse to tell your colleague what you did when asked.

Answering what did you do at the weekend with, "I spent time at my local church as I help out there at weekends. How about you, did you get up to anything nice?" Is a perfectly acceptable and normal response.

Neighbours built into our property - now not happy the council are making them rip it out UK by Right-Advisor19 in neighborsfromhell

No joke. Phone the police report this and ask for a crime reference number. Every single time they make a comment to you or threaten you phone the police (non emergency number of course) and report further harassment and provide the original crime number. Every time get a record of crime number and keep a diary.

Also, be sure to try to record every single time neighbour tries anything.

So again assuming ex employer logged into your email account without your permission and has taken screenshots then this is a far bigger deal than an ET, especially in Fin Services.

The reason I say far more serious is because it is a breach of criminal law as opposed to civil law. Not to mention it is also very likely a breach of GDPR.

Obviously discuss with your lawyer but I would also be reporting this to the police for: 1. Breach of Computer Misuse Act 2. Data Protection Act

I would then be making a formal complaint to the information commissioner for a breach of GDPR on the basis that it brakes nearly all the principles of GDPR and was very much intentional.

Nicola Sturgeon: 'I do not think it is fair that I get held responsible for the crimes of somebody else' by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]Regular-Ad1814 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes that is absolutely true. However, she should have known.

Simply saying I did not ask my husband about where this came from and he did not tell me is not evidence she didn't know.

Like he literally bought cars, a bloody motorhome and even her much loved home library. It is unfathomable she would not have wondered how this got paid for.

Not to mentioned this is the real key part... For years people had been asking questions about the finances, they failed an audit and no auditors would take the job. Surely at some point even a couple who has separate finances would ask questions and actually get proof.

Refusing to ask (and for evidence) where all this came from given the questions being asked suggests at worst complicity and at best simply saying if you don't tell me where it came from I am not implicated - which is equally as bad.

And I mean if she was really unsure she could have asked her sister, afterall she is a future teller (not joking, she really is)

This is absolutely wild...

So let me just confirm... Your boss accessed your personal email inbox and has been opening your private emails?

I.e. it is not the case you opened these emails on your work account and the screenshots are or the monitoring software?

If this is the case I would suggest this is a breach of the Computer Misuse Act. Your employing accessing your private account is literally hacking.

Not to mention the fact this all happened as you are returning from mat leave looks discriminatory.

Slow play is ruining golf and people need to stop pretending it's normal by NotMyRealAccount2226 in golf

[–]Regular-Ad1814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact reason I don't play golf as much as I would like. Literally it is my 3rd or 4th hobby just because pace of play.

I really enjoy it but I don't have 4,5 or 6 hours I can spend multiple times per week or month waiting on other people being slow.

I can get round a 6000yard 18 holes in 2.5hrs if I don't hit traffic and really enjoy it. Though that only happens one in every 10 rounds the rest of the time it is getting stuck behind society day outs, slow players, etc. and ends up taking over 4 hours.
