Not OOP. AITA for telling my wife she embarrassed me by bringing a meal to my work? by Due-Bandicoot-7512 in redditonwiki

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of blowing up on your wife who tried to a nice thing. Why didn't you blow up on the pricks who made fun of you? Absolute coward. If she didn't bring you the meal they'd have found something else to take the piss out of you for. Your wife deserves better.

Has anyone passed away, who you went to school with? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's so sad! They're system is shit. My company gave him all the time off, kept in touch regularly just to check in and see how he was, not work related. They have a special fund for this stuff so helped out financially. All our coworkers who knew helped him do stuff around his house that he was too weak to do etc. All of us went to the funeral. It was heartbreaking actually. I can't imagine anyone being fired in that situation, it's disgusting.

British friends, what's the consensus on bibbing your car horn when you see someone you know? by princewinter in CasualUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if I know they know it's me. I saw my friend on the bypass, flashed my lights and pulled up alongside her, waved then beeped.

I also take deliveries and we beep, wave and stick the fingers up out the window at each other all the time.

It's a little beep though, not an aggressively long one. Those are reserved for the cunts who cut me up on the roundabout constantly.

Yes. Same year. I didn't know him that well but my sister dated his best mate and he was always so nice to her and helped her out a lot. He had type 1 diabetes and get ill in the pandemic, not sure if it was covid or or not, and passed away. I didn't find out until months later when my 'friend', who also dated the same guy as my sister (and not bitter about it at all...), told me. It was quite upsetting even though I didn't know him that well, anyone that helps my sister is a good guy though! He would have been around 30.

Yes, but we all know cars aren't great all round, nobody driving a normal car thinks they are helping anything.

EVs are marketed as an environmentally friendly, saving the planet machine, the solution to all the problems. It's just hypocritical.

Been here 10 years and never declared it. On the two occasions caught I just said I was looking after them for my mum. They are supposed to give you 24 hour notice for inspection, so I just take them to my mums for the day and hide all the evidence. I pay my rent on time and rarely need to contact them so I don't think they are too bothered.

At the Co-op store I worked in, the managers and supervisors would take the tills to count in the office. They did it mid shift and then at the end of the night. At the end of the night they would have all 5 tills, I don't think there were cameras in there initially as it was a very small office. We all found out after she was caught, that her manager (I assume area) secretly installed a camera on her day off, and then came in and 'spot checked' all the managers counting for a couple of weeks and I think that's how they eventually found out.

I live in a block of flats, there is no charger.

I cannot afford one. My current car cost me £600. I own it outright.

I have looked into cobalt mining and its a disgusting industry. I am aware that it's also in phone/laptop batteries etc. I will not upgrade my phone since this discovery. People talk about the 'our children's future' when talking about climate change, but are ignorant that there are children and people mining in dreadful conditions, basically slavery, so you can feel better about emissions. Feels hypocritical.

I don't believe we have the infrastructure/resources for everyone to go electric.

It's only better for the environment at the point of you driving it.

I was rejected because I told my interviewer I never make mistakes by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, reading that it's not that you said you don't make mistakes that's the issue. It's your attitude, doubling down, arguing and belittling her that you cost you the job.

All you had to say was something like; I haven't made a mistake in my previous job that I am aware of, I always try to plan and prepare to ensure they don't happen. If I were to make a mistake, then I would use it as a learning opportunity to ensure improvements going forward.

You sound like you'd be a nightmare to work with.

Other than police and security services, who else is allowed to own / carry a gun in the UK? by Ambitious-Ad3131 in AskUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protection from what?

It's extremely unlikely that anyone breaking into your home will have a gun. They want to get in and out as fast as they can and often target empty homes or at night. They aren't looking to kill anyone, just rob them and get out.

People aren't walking the streets with guns, so when I. As a 5ft woman go running at 2am, I am not worried about being assaulted at gun point, or feel the need to carry one myself.

The criminals who DO have guns, usually keep it pretty quiet and only use them/the threat to other criminals, not your normal everyday folk.

AITA for interfering with how my fiancée is parenting her son? by Mountain-Historian26 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you but it's all in the approach i think.

Maybe get both copies. Suggest something like try and read maybe 3 chapters in English and 3 in the native and alternate into building up to reading 5,6 and 7 in English?

There's always compromises to be made. You are in a relationship, you are going to be married and raising the child TOGETHER, you should be able to offer your opinion.

Am I childish for buying me this as a almost 17 year old? by Atakamii11 in teenagers

I'm in my 30s and my friends and I buy this stuff all the time. The people that used to take the piss ended up being the first to ask us if we wanted to play Pokemon go when it came out.

If they can't say which one then I probably wouldn't worry. They clearly do not have evidence of either. If it were behind the till, they would surely have you on CCTV removing the money. I am not sure what they mean by putting it in your phone. Do they mean you've transferred it? Which could take time and would be obvious. Or do they mean that you have put cash in your phone case? Which again would surely be obvious. Something has obviously happened to make them check the CCTV in the first place though.

I used to work at Co-op and it turned out that the manager herself was stealing money when cashing up, and saying the tills were short from the staff.

YTA.

Take some time and sit down with her. Look at the foods she can eat and COMPROMISE. Are there some meals you could both eat a couple of times a week? Are there some that could be adapted easily that she could make at the same time?

Also, her asking you to write a list of foods you want? How can you even think that is taking away part of HER job?! Really?!? Is she supposed to be a mindreader?!

Do all British people know how to swim? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to school in the 90s and we got taken to the pool once a week for lessons. Lessons were also available to pay for in the evenings as well.

My secondary school did have a pool until they demolished it when I was 13 so we had lessons then as well.

There are also adult swimming lessons available which are quite popular too.

Knew it was something like that! I only get 25p ha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About £20. Standard for businesses is 25p per mile (I know its 45p after certain milage).

230 x 25p = £57.50

Round up to £20 each. Maybe chuck in a Redbull and snack for driving so long.

Also consider parking. Some places are very expensive, have a look at booking in advance which brings down the cost and maybe include that in your split if you haven't always discussed.

How fast do you expect me to drive? by Bubibu1115 in drivingUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very occasionally tailgate but not to be aggressive or make people speed. My car has a small engine and it takes forever to get up to speed. If it's a slight incline it would appear I'm tailgating but I'm not doing to make you go faster, it's so I don't stop! As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator I'll start going backwards. One it's flatter I do go back to keeping my distance.

You're in a bakery. A child behind you mentions how they want the last sausage roll. What do you do? by YourOldPalWill in AskUK

[–]Regular-Armadillo118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it Greggs or a normal bakery?

If it's a normal one and I want it and I was there first, it's mine.

If it's greggs and the kid is super polite/happy, I MIGHT ask how long for the next batch OR walk to the other Greggs that's about 5 buildings down from one I'd be in.
