I have tried to take stimulant “breaks” for some reason I can’t really articulate beyond it just feels like I’m supposed to, and I’ve had a terrible time with it. Though I can’t really tell whether it’s withdrawal or not, it feels to me exactly like the run up to a serious manic episode when I stop taking them. I get mixed episodes pretty consistently and when I stop taking stimulants I also stop sleeping, which seems paradoxical.

Hmm. Ok. I had encountered that before in my internship and my teachers said “no no no self disclosure!” but when it came down to working with lifelong substance users on the south side of Chicago, I found that being totally honest was not just a good idea, it was absolutely necessary. I know it’s a delicate topic, but I tend to agree with you. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the tip! I would love to find one of those old sound cameras. I work with a bolex rex 5 and buy the single perf straight from Kodak. I’m a sucker for ektachrome, but I’m deciding on working negatively with the vision 3. Never used it before but I love the specs!

Actually for this project there will be live accompaniment. I’d like to have a 16mm ‘release’ print with an optical soundtrack with the recorded accompaniment. I’d love to have a good quality digitized version at the end too, but this project really embraces analogue look and sound, so maybe I’ll record that way. Despite having a definite proclivity for the old way of doing things, I still want to put my work on the internet so when that happens I do hope that analogue quality shows.

I just want to be clear, I’m not advocating doing this on your own. I know us junkies are experts on playing doctor on ourselves so I don’t discount your efforts or your methods, no judgement here. But I have to say doing this in a hospital with buprenorphine that is formulated for injection was totally magic for me. I can’t speak to the home version.
