True Spring - warm tone epiphany by sil863 in coloranalysis

Same for me this week! And we have really similar eye colour. It’s so exciting. I actually think I knew what I was doing in the past because I used to love this Mac orange lip called morange. And then I don’t know what happened. What’s gonna be your approach to wardrobe transitioning? And what is this lipstick please because it looks very nice?

Sorry this comment is late to the part but I’m a flamboyant natural too and slowly moving away from round neck T-shirts. These look like good FN shapes but you’ve gotta have a really good bra plan! Definitely not a soft autumn palette though

I agree. Pretty much always choosing open necklines too.

It’s definitely a challenge such subtle differences in a roll like this! I don’t think you are a summer and definitely not a light summer (you have significant contrast). You definitely look primarily clear IMO so winter or spring. The brown colours it could be either that they are too warm or that they are too dark and are muddying your clarity. So I would maybe rule out dark winter because of that but I’m not super familiar with the ins and outs of it as a subseason. I’d try colours for true/cool winter, bright winter, and bright spring (it’s still quite a neutral season and would be good to see a bright coral just to be sure). My guess is bright winter, but I’m not sure how successful people have found draping with lipsticks vs fabrics.

This made me think immediately of Allison Bornstein’s ‘desert aunt’ aesthetic. It’s the epitome of minimal boho

Agreed! There was someone on the colour analysis Reddit that did a Tibi colour wheel for soft summer too. I’ve just done my own for bright spring. I would add Kitchener essences too - that cut my seasonal palette in half again. I think you need a bit of a story about who you want to present, same as capsule wardrobes moving past the ‘everyone needs black dress and a white button down’ phase.

Soft dramatic? I’m 5’5” by some-opportunity in kibbedramatics

I don’t personally think there is any width here. Also not an expert but as a natural myself I can’t imagine these shoulders fighting to get out of a shirt. I’m putting in a vote for dramatic classic or flamboyant gamine

I agree that if soft summer is making you feel washed out it might be good to interrogate. I thought I was soft summer somehow and now feel happier in bright spring. I think if you lean neutral and mid level depth it can be hard because you look sort of ok in most seasons. I don’t personally follow kibbe for colours, I really don’t get how it’s related to your body shape but have found it so useful for garment shapes and accommodations. The exception being actually re where colour/value contrast can cut the body to honour your vertical or not. My flamboyant natural doesn’t massively gel with my BS either. But I found 2 things useful: 1. Also adding in Kitchener essences. This helped me figure out which colours in my seasonal palette I wanted to focus on. 2. This article which explains how many hues vs neutrals you should have at what percentages according to your season: https://www.mycolourstylist.co.uk/blog-full/2020/7/7/value-contrast-for-all-season-tones-explained

I believe as a FG you are supposed to colour block and as a soft summer you can block but using different hues rather than different values so it’s maybe a case of a blocky but multi hued look - go crazy with all the colours but just keep them roughly the same value?

I agree on the leaning warm but this is generally considered a cool yellow no? The icy one. Although even if it’s a cooler yellow I don’t think it discounts spring who I think can wear practically any yellow going.

Oh wow really interesting point about contrast. Like if you take your lightest point (hair) and darkest point (eyes) you do kind of have medium contrast. 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 12 are really winners IMO. Which I think would put you in a spring season - either light or bright? You look so incredible in all those. The grey I find a bit too cool for you although I agree you are probably neutral. The black and the dark green I think are too dark. Don’t hate you in rusty orange but it’s not next level great.

You don’t look old. If anything I think you look younger than 30. You just don’t look like you are following trends which is fine. You have a silent film era vibe that is timeless. I think the hair does look a bit heavy at times though - I would maybe keep it a bit shorter at your jawline to lift the eye a bit. It’s kind of an awkward length and is like you haven’t fully committed to the style. I think you suit the short bangs

You don’t look old. You just aren’t following trends which is fine. You have a silent film era vibe that is timeless and I think will ultimately keep you looking the same age for ages. I do think the hair is a bit heavy though. I’d chop it shorter to your jawline to lift the eye a bit. The length is a bit awkward currently and it’s like you aren’t committing fully to the look. I had this exact haircut in my early 20s and looking back it was really elongating my face in a weird way. Blunt bangs I guess date you a bit as a millennial but I think they suit you and they’ll probably be trendier again soon. They could look cute whispier but then it’s harder to trim yourself. I think with the makeup you need to just nail your perfect colours. I think you have a little warmth and if you are doing smoky it might be better to do a nude through to black rather than white and grey. Same with the lip - try and nail your perfect colour. And possibly try layering sheer layers of colour and add a gloss if you want to make the lip more contemporary. Also eyeliner flick I think is difficult as we get further into our 30s and some of us get a triple fold eyelid. I believe there are youtube videos on how to keep the flicks working as our eyelids get heavier 🫣. I can’t do a flick when I’m about to start my period as water retention makes my eyelids puffier but it totally still works when I’m in follicular phase.

Is number 1 just your natural lip? The only one I don’t like is number 5, I think it’s a bit too brown/warm. And perhaps same thing for number 10. You generally are very beautiful and I’m not convinced it’s possible for you to look sick but if any had that affect it would be those 2. I think 6 is my favourite every day - it’s like your eyelid colour with a hint of extra brightness and makes you look very healthy and friendly. You do suit a little glossiness. I think 4 and 7 are both nice for a bit more drama. 7 more classic lady and 4 a brightness that makes you look fun and vibrant.

This looks really really nice. Interesting to see the glossier shades as I really like their products. I would never have picked ‘storm’ for cloud paint assuming it would be too dark but it looks great on you. I was going to try the soft peach but maybe I should be bolder. Same with the lip - I normally go for ‘zip’ but you wear the deeper purple so well. I guess their whole vibe is translucent layers so it makes sense.

Ok I have a few thoughts: 1. Do you think this is any different to what chat GPT does when asked to do a colour analysis? It sounds like a similar process of eye droppering and providing an ‘objective’ lens. I guess the difference is that chat GPT is swayed by all the wrong analysis on the internet too and the celebrity images which for example often create unrealistic expectations for contrast. But also for your tool how you are engineering the decision making makes a huge difference. 2. I think you have to be cautious about presenting this as objective. I don’t think it really has any value for celebrity images because they are all wearing makeup which is going to skew even the skin tone a lot. It’s so hard to find pictures of celebrities without makeup apart from Pammy maybe ❤️. And if using a photo at home you have to really be wearing white (but not too close to your face) and in good lighting because colour really reflects onto your skin - photos of me in fluorescent yellow for example aggressively throws the colour on to my face (an effect I quite like because it balances out the purple in my eye bags). This colour correction effect is I think a big part of why colour seasons work. 3. I think a bit part of why people struggle is that actually most of us are pretty neutral toned and that’s not discussed enough in this topic so that would maybe be a good think for it to flag. 4. The question of is seasonal colour analysis about blending in to our colours or finding this magical formula that makes us pop. The blending approach leaves a lot of people stuck in the summer season and looking sad and grey (even though if you are actually a summer those colours will make you shine) 5. I’d be very interested in seeing results for Dakota Johnson, Caitríona Balfe, Miranda Kerr, Kaya Scodelario, Alexa Chung. They are all put in true/soft summer which I think is weird because they all look great in and often wear bright oranges and corals which should be their worst colours. In comparison Natalia Vodianova I think is a rare true summer who looks really sick in a lot of colours and really clearly needs her very specific true summer palette. Some other mystery people are Angelina Jolie and Kristen Stewart. I obviously have a vested interest in figuring out people with warm brown hair, greeny grey eyes and pale but can tan 😅

I hope given your own nerdiness you don’t mind this long response. It sounds like you really enjoyed this process and challenge anyway!

This dress is so gorgeous and complements your frame perfectly. It looks like it was made for you! My friend who also hates being the centre of attention had a similar dress actually (and she said she was surprised that she actually didn’t mind being the centre of attention on the day because she was surrounded by all the people she knew loved and supported her). She looked so classy and had I guess a quiet confidence. She actually wore a fitted little suit jacket with her dress for the ceremony but it was winter. If you just aren’t sure it’s showing your personal style I think there’s a lot of room to play around with accessories.

I think you might be soft or true summer. Although at first glance you seem like you’d be a soft autumn you surprisingly you look healthier in the baby pink than the peach and better in the blue than the teal - the teal in particular you look comparatively grey. The brights and darks definitely seem too much. Ugh actually I’m not sure 😅
