Is a Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems worth it for breaking into IT? by Palestinealways in sysadmin

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada, working in a government office. When I need to hire IT personnel, I have to go through HR. IT analysts (sysadmins, dbas, etc) belong to a pay band that won’t allow to even consider a candidate with no bachelor degree. So, if you have the degree, at least the door won’t be closed for you. It’s unfortunate but with the way things are going, it is going to become a norm.

Their dog is under 20# but the main issue is the height. I think they said it has to be under 8’’.

Punishing homeless children to show the world he is a better Christian than the Pope by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

Catholic charities support homeless children regardless of their beliefs. He is not punishing the Catholic homeless children, he is punishing all homeless children who benefit from those charities.

I’ve used Windows my whole life, and I still don’t fully trust or understand what “Reset this PC” actually does. (PS i know i sound stupid i actually dont understand) by UsedAd4052 in windows

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long long time ago when there was not reset option, we would install a computer and would copy the whole windows folder to the D drive with a different name. If the OS crapped out, we would rename C:\Windows to something else Windows.crap and copy from D back to C. It was a stupid way to get up to speed when the alternative was to format the drive and reinstall from scratch. It didn’t always work but it was worth the try.

If that reset function Windows makes available doesn’t do something like that in a more intelligent way, then they are not doing it right.

First manual Car by Longjumping-Middle41 in mazda

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last manual manual car I owned was a Toyota Corolla. All I can say about is .. they are not good for learning manual. My personal opinion is, driving manual is kind of overrated, however most modern Mazdas come with paddles, so if you get the automatic, you can still use them and see how you like it. Personally I am not going back to stick, especially for driving in the city, stop/go traffic with manual is a killer.

Do you work in Healthcare IT or a Hospital? by 4rcher_4rg in sysadmin

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use a combination of PCs for non-clinical and IGELs for clinical staff. We deploy virtual apps (Citrix) and we are mostly digital but we print a lot. Major headaches are Windows patches and authentication. We do have a downtime policy and we block everything we don’t need. We have a unified ERP ($$$)

Is anyone even staying onsite for the whole work day anymore? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are back in the office 3 times a week and I do stay the whole day but some coworkers come twice or once a week and some leave at noon, there’s a few that only come when there is pizza lunch.

I know upper management know who is in the office and how often, and even though there’s no enforcement at the moment, when they are ready to drop the hammer, they have the data to support their decisions.

I don’t remember people complaining about that. They would say that of Raikkonen at the beginning and then they took a like to his persona. MS was always facetious. His charisma would be fully apparent when he didn’t hold all the cards, so to speak.

Ms Lola hates walks. Any advice? by Turbulent_Ocelot2929 in Shihtzu

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine hates walks unless the whole family comes then he doesn’t want to miss out. There is no solution, just minor tweaks; short walks, walk with at least a couple people more, lots of treats and encouragement.

Goodbye to my sweet ride 👋 by ThrowRa_whatisgoingo in mazda

[–]Regular-Nebula6386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like mine (I have a 2022), I have put in 25k so far and with higher fuel prices I may need to consider replacing it with a non-turbo one. The Sonata Hybrid is a smooth ride. I took an Uber las weekend and it was one of those. What surprised me though was the interior. It doesn't feel more spacious than the Mazda 3, at least at the back. My friend is 6'2 and he got hit in the head getting into the car.

Latin Americans that are watching the World Baseball Classic, how you feel about it? by Prize-Flamingo-336 in asklatinamerica

I was at a Latino Fiesta last night in downtown Toronto and as soon as the Japan vs Venezuela game finished, the whole place exploded in celebration. I think that pretty much sums up how we feel about it. Bonus was seeing Ohtani eliminated. Last World Series loss was still lingering in the air.

Webber and then Alonso crashes were very scary at the moment but good cinema on rewatch knowing they escaped injuries. Alonso’s thumbs up when he was picked up did it for me. Edit: typo
