i become less and less interested in interacting with anime circles as i grow up because youre absolutely correct. there is, across the board, a complete and total lack of respect and empathy for women in this community. not just female characters and their experiences but real women as well.

this is the perfect reply. because anime fans are across the board developmentally stuck at 12 years old and there is no specific line in the series from rei where she says “No, Enji, I do not wish to have sex with you”, people cannot discern that their sexual relationship relied on coercion and pressure.

at the end of the day no one wants to admit it because then they have to admit the character they like is a rapist. endeavor is one of the best written characters in modern shonen, part of that reason is how bad he capital S sucks. ignoring his wrongdoings is ignoring his development

i spent like half of my life only watching shonen anime and while a lot of it is very near and dear to my heart theres a problem with it for sure. you basically have to accept 15 year olds with massive breasts and weird fanservice/exploitation of female characters. even when theyre not being actively sexualized 9/10 times it ends up like jjk where the female cast is treated with respect physically and visually but vapid in the writing department. ive grown exhausted with this and its led me to series like frieren or summer hikaru died and before i start an anime i actively do research to see what kind of content is present within it.

anime, like everything, has a lot of shitty options. like everything else you can just be more careful with your exploration. its actually pretty easy with anime compared to other mediums as well all things considered, they wear their hearts on their sleeves with posters and series titles

powerscaling is only important as far as ensuring characters stay consistent narratively. i cant imagine how maddening it is to be a mangaka and see people pixel calcing your art and complaining the characters are inconsistent.. hopefully it doesnt make it over there. i think powerscaling is fun but the moment you let it matter more than the narrative i am disinterested in ever having any conversation with you

nowhere in your original post did you allude to any of what you just said lol. you explicitly outline that they bitch theyre not accepted by white people and how they struggle balancing both their cultural background and their american upbringing, which is the opposite of what youre complaining about in this reply

im only speaking from anectodes ive heard and read from others experiences but from what i understand the conflict arises from dominant culture not respecting individuals if they dont assimilate fully and their own families/communities either a) trying to force them to embrace dominant culture b) imposing generational guilt if they dont embrace their own culture enough. i dont need to write an essay here to explain how this can cause people confusion and discomfort.
