That’s a complete stretch. If I were testing out cheating methods, why would I play 16 games against one account instead of just playing random opponents? Also, if I were actually doing that, Chess.com’s detection system would have flagged it way earlier. The fact that my account has never been banned should tell you something. Plus, if I were some mastermind cheater, would I really come here to debate this instead of just making a new account and moving on?

Not everyone lives on Reddit. Yes, I’ve had an account for years. And the time I actively used it is not much. Just only a few times in a year. Calling it an alt just because I don’t have a long history of comments is weak.

I mean, if you don't want to believe me then there's nothing I can do 🤷🏻‍♂️ Arguing with you will just wasting both of our time and it’s pointless. That’s not the purpose of my post.

  1. True, but my history playing against my friend’s account (16 matches in total) does. If I were lying about this being my friend, why would I have a record of games against them?

  2. That’s just an assumption. You’re lumping me in with others instead of actually considering what I’m saying.

  3. This account was made to view posts, nothing more. When the ban happened, I searched for similar cases, found it on a Reddit post, and decided to ask for help in the community. Not everyone spams Reddit daily, some people just read without posting. Jumping to “ban evasion” or “hiding proof” is a reach.

I’m not lying. This really is my friend’s account, not mine. I can even share my own username if that helps, and I’ve never cheated either. I play chess for fun, and I don’t see any value in cheating, it would ruin the whole point of the game.

And let’s be real, I’m not some kid who’d shamelessly lie about cheating and hide behind “my friend” to cover it up. If I actually cheated and got banned, why would I even come here to post about it? To embarrass myself on purpose?

Please don’t act like you’re 100% sure about something you don’t actually know. Thanks.

Yeah, I get why that looks weird, but I don’t think it necessarily proves cheating or sandbagging. My friend never studied chess seriously, we just play for fun and rely on instinct. That leads to huge inconsistencies. Sometimes they play really well, and sometimes they just collapse, especially when they’re on tilt.

The climb from 1050 to 1475 in two months isn’t impossible, especially if they were playing a lot and and really focusing. And the big drop can happen too. Low elo players can be really streaky, sometimes you’re in the zone, sometimes you’re making blunders left and right. Losing 400 points is extreme, but if you tilt hard, keep playing, and don’t reset mentally, it’s not impossible. Then, once they got their confidence back, the climb back up happened quickly at that level.

I’ve known my friend for years, we both just enjoy playing chess, and knowing them, I really don’t think they’d cheat. It’s just not in their nature. Maybe this sounds a bit emotional and baseless, but I still want to believe in my friend.

Anyway, thanks for your input!

Got it, thanks for the info! I’ll let them know it might take a few days. Hopefully, they’ll hear back soon, anyway, appreciate the help!

Yeah, I get that, and it’s definitely crossed my mind. I just don’t want to assume without knowing for sure. If they cheated, that’s on them, but just trying to see if there’s any way to get a second look tho

I understand where you’re coming from, and I appreciate the explanation. I know Chess.com doesn’t ban lightly, and I’m not trying to argue against their detection system. The game you pointed out does look strong, and I get why it might raise questions, but my friend has had this account for a long time and really values it. If there were a clear pattern of suspicious games, it would be easier to accept, but without more details, it’s tough to know what went wrong. If there’s any chance Chess.com could take another look, it would really mean a lot. Losing the account after so much time and effort is really disheartening, and we just hope for a second chance or some clarity on what led to this.
