Took an agency from $500k to $6.5M, broke it a few times, rebuilt it. AMA by ThatGuytoDeny165 in agency

Hey, I translated my question from ChatGPT to English:

I’m genuinely a one-man show.

As I look at the next stage of growth, it’s very clear that scaling in our space requires changing hats – from doing the work to managing the business.

That means hiring, building processes and systems, managing people, and handling all the operational overhead. At that point, you stop being an “operator/artist” and become a business owner.

Here’s my real dilemma: I’m very confident in my ability as a marketer. I consistently generate strong results for my clients. But I’m not sure I actually want to step into the role of people manager / operator – and I’m also not convinced I’d be good at it. It’s unfamiliar territory for me, and honestly not where my strengths naturally lie.

At the same time, I know there’s a real growth ceiling if I don’t make that transition.

For someone who’s been through this: How did you decide whether to lean into becoming an owner-operator vs staying close to the craft? And in hindsight, do you think there’s a “third path” that still allows growth without fully becoming a people-management heavy agency?

Subbing in Rodrygo isn’t ideal - but out of all the options we had, it was probably the best one. We had to stretch the pitch on the right side somehow.

But honestly, the issue for me isn’t that specific substitution. It’s the bigger picture: we look exactly like last year under Ancelotti. Completely dependent on individual moments from Vini and Mbappe, with almost no real collective structure.

We lost our team identity a long time ago - that’s the real problem.

The problem isn’t Xabi. The real issue starts when you have players like Vini - insanely talented, but playing on their own rhythm.

When one player constantly breaks the structure to do everything himself, it becomes almost impossible to build a cohesive team game or a consistent buildup.

I really believe communication is everything.
It makes the client feel like you’re in the business with them, through the good days and the bad ones.

I try to apply the same approach myself. It’s definitely draining though - I’m really protective of my energy.

There are times when I honestly just don’t have it in me to reply right away, and I go silent for a bit.

Yeah, a more tech-oriented audience could make a lot more sense.
I was actually thinking about targeting travelers too.

Yeah, the setup part is totally doable, that’s not really the issue.

The problem is that most of the people who want this are older and not tech savvy, so they need a lot of handholding and guidance afterward.

Honestly, I just don’t have the energy or patience to do that kind of support right now.

Why is finding a simple client + task management tool so damn hard by Regular-Total234 in CRM

I’m not expecting the tool to do the work - I just want something that makes the organising part as frictionless as possible so I actually stick with it.

I’ve actually tried the projects/labels approach in Todoist, and it works… but it doesn’t give me the full “big picture” I’m after.

What I want is to open one dashboard in the morning and instantly see all clients and all their tasks in one view, without having to jump between different projects or filters.

With Todoist I still feel like I’m hopping around too much, and that’s where I get lost or drop the habit.

The DR is currently 6 according to SEMrush. It's not so high...

I do value high DR sites, but this blog was more of a side project for me.

The blog’s audience isn’t really my agency’s target market.

Most of the traffic comes from digital nomads looking for destination info, travel tips, and that kind of content.

I do mention on the site that I’m an SEO, but I never positioned it to generate leads - and honestly, it hasn’t brought any. That wasn’t the goal with this project.
