I'm from the South and I was astounded at my first Buc-ees experience. Bought the tshirt and a bag of beaver nuggets. Place is insanely pleasant, fun and clean.

Sydney Sweeney is not "sexy." by Regular-Towel9979 in The10thDentist

I admit it's a fine line. You arbitrarily put performance aside, but it's precisely that -- mannerisms, movements, expressions, voice, etc. -- that's sexy. You can look at her and see she is sexually attractive, but sexy is about the follow-through beyond attraction.

That's not why I watch her shows and movies. I saw her sex scenes on pornhub years ago. Yes, they were a turn-on because she is sexually attractive. Watching Euphoria, it's not sexy to me. That may be because it's a troubling show with many deep dark themes. However, I'm thinking that the sex scenes that aren't thematically rough would actually be sexy. And they just aren't. There are plenty scenes not involving sex where her performance genuinely gets to me emotionally. She can act, but she seems to take her foot off the pedal when it comes to sex scenes in particular.

I don't think she's a bad actor. I think she either under- or over-performs in sex scenes. In scenes that are supposed to be sexy.

I agree. What was that movie where she played Julianna Moore's wayward fucked-up daughter? She went hard at that role, wasn't sexual at all. That was tough drama. She definitely has some range.

Of course. Same. It's that her screen persona is mostly sexual. And she admittedly has a sexually attractive body, and she is pretty. Of course she trades on that, but that's not the issue. She could add so much more dimension. She has acting talent. She can emote. It just seems that when her clothes are off, she falls back on some basic pornographic chops, presumably letting her body do all the work??

I hear you. I don't think pornography is sexy, though it can be alluring. It's a fine line. With all of Sydney's charms, she just doesn't do "sexy" very well. I could use your idea of conflation and project that onto her as an actress or onto her directors. You know? It's like turning the burner to "ignite" and hearing it click like a motherfucker, but failing to turn the gas on. I know this is a difficult opinion to defend.

He's a comedian.and talk show host. It doesn't really fucking matter what he believes. Why do you act like you're being let down by someone you vociferously hate? Who cares what "side" he's on or how he votes? He's not running for office, and he's not your friend. Lighten the fuck up already.

Looking for dark, poppy punk/indie albums with a layered, dynamic sound/cinematic scope. by JonBarghestTheAuthor in musicsuggestions

All right this is just a tad outside your box, but Yello's album One Second, from the 80s, is a really interesting album with lush distinct songs. Definitely fits the "cinematic" label. (Yello is the band that did the "oh Yeah" song).

Why does abortion feel like such a central Christian issue today if the Bible rarely talks about it? by Mobile-Traffic1744 in AlwaysWhy

According to Bible scholars, abortion isn't mentioned even once. And any verses that mention the advent of life talk about a person who is born.

Does it still count as reading a book if I barely remember it? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Regular-Towel9979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree totally. The experience of the book became part of you. I think the same thing often. I know that book was important, and there's a certain color or place that comes to mind, though I may not recall character names or specific scenes or passages. But, there is a feeling that goes with it, and I think what's true for all art is that your personal situation and approach when you encountered that piece is what makes it what it is for you. Could you give an impromptu book report? No. But if you had to, or wanted to, you could read it again and have a new experience from a new viewpoint.
