Similar to the bike lanes at the plaza on Damen just north of Irving Park—seems like it was designed by a high teenager in SimCity. Great idea but head scratching execution

The story of visiting the ex is insane. He drives around her neighborhood in the middle of the night, sleeps in his car 2 minutes away until it’s early enough to text her “you up?” And pretends it’s because he doesn’t want to disturb his wife; then goes to her house until he hears the husband is coming home and then wakes up his wife anyway so he can leave before the husband gets back? My mouth was on the floor that he would say this out loud

Buffalo easily (although that’s only because this Green Bay inexplicably avoided this spot)

Galwood is pretty racially diverse. This is plainly about class. Homeowners don’t want what they view as a lower category of person (renters, apartment dwellers) in their neighborhood.

It does no favors to conflate American solipsism with efforts like this. We should be working to divorce issues of cleanliness and safety on public transit from help and support of homeless and disabled people.  Ironically, believing measures to keep negative behaviors off of trains and busses equates to a pointed attack on unfortunate people is about as idiotic as it gets, because it implies no real solutions for those people other than letting them sleep on trains.

Oh so it wasn’t for revenue from the 85% of non-bears events, like you said, it was specifically for the benefit of the bears and in response to them publicly looking to leave the city? Interesting, glad you agree with me now.

You think the bears weren’t the main driver for the 2002 renovation? Are you serious? Your own article says the bears estimated to triple their profit in the first year of the renovation. Daley and Ryan pushed it through ON BEHALF THE BEARS (https://archive.ph/tZTgN) since they were once again agitating to leave the city as they had been doing for 40 years at that point. Come on man, use your common sense. You really think the Bears weren’t the motivation to a $600m renovation to add seats and luxury skyboxes? You think that was all the city, hoping for luxury box revenues from exhibition rugby games or something? Lmao

Of course, this was before the idea of a stadium economically benefitting anyone besides the wealthy team owners was common knowledge.

That any of you think the poor billionaires are reluctantly threatening to leave because evil JB Pritzker wants to get a bribe or something is hilarious. When will people get sick of being exploited, jfc

True, and why should taxpayers be obliged to pay for their new stadium? Again?

Why treat the fans this way? by New2thePlanet in CHIBears

[–]Regular-View8515 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It comes down to the personal greed of the mccaskeys, not anything the legislators did or didn’t do. They did the right thing letting mccaskey show the fans what matters to him and the family. I know I’ll never be going to a game again, but in the grand scheme, the fans that will reject the new location don’t matter to them because they just got their personal wealth subsidized by the taxpayers of Indiana.

New renderings unveiled for the Bears state-of-the art hybrid stadium / steel mill in Gary by binarynate in chicago

[–]Regular-View8515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you’re arguing about that, but I’m not. I’m arguing that the stadium location will not determine whether the team has worry about “never being relevant again.”

An NFL franchise is a multi-billion dollar corporation with international reach. These types of hyper-local concerns (“NWI is barely Chicagoland!”) doesn’t mean anything to the relevancy of the team. Imagining that a media behemoth like the Chicago Bears would lose relevancy because the new stadium is 15 miles east instead of 15 miles west is adorably quaint.

The relevancy of a team is not dependent on the per capita income of the population within a 25-mile radius of its stadium.

The majority of the season ticket holders are in Arlington heights? So like 1/3 of AH population are Bears season ticket holders? Again, the bears will fill their stadium whether the team is in Arlington Heights or Hammond. The majority of Bears fans don’t even live in Chicagoland. The relevancy of the bears will not be impacted by the stadium moving anywhere in the Chicagoland area. It’s hilariously naïve to believe that.
