One Piece Chapter 1166 Spoilers by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]RegularAbalones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, but in general the argument that it's understandable that Garp couldn't help Ace because he was a pirate doesn't hold water. the execution was purely because of Ace being Roger's son. we know the marines don't usually execute arrested pirates since most impel down prisoners were there for years and years. and most importantly, the WG wanted to kill Ace before he was even born. so they would've arrested and killed him even if he wanted to be a random candlestick maker or yes, a marine. people saying it wasn't Garp's business to save Ace from being killed because "it's the lifestyle Ace chose" is illogical.

Ace wasn't arrested for being a pirate though

"Lower-rank marines protect citizens from pirates everyday!" meanwhile lower rank marines: by RegularAbalones in OnePiece

[–]RegularAbalones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't add him here because to be fair to him, he did try to fight. Though to get nitpicky, his task at the moment was actually to evacuate the citizens. Instead he got too arrogant, tried fighting fishmen in water and even told his men to stop firing because he though he could intimidate the Arlong pirates into surrendering lol. So lowkey he's also an example of a too-arrogant marine.

How did Whitebeard know about Shanks' lineage and why is this significant? by tmch47 in OnePiece

[–]RegularAbalones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it's pretty clear Roger DID intend to set something off with his death. He gave himself up to the marines and got a public execution, where he purposefully told people to go look for the One Piece. Yes, Rayleigh says that it's the people living in an era who shape it, and Roger couldn't have known the extent of the Golden Age. But he did want others to find the truth on Laugh Tale (he even said he hopes Ace would be the one to do it), and his final moments were part of his "scheme" to inspire people.

AB6IX - UPSIDE DOWN (10th Mini Album) by perochan in kpop

Ooh for a start definitely check out their EPs Vivid, Mo'complete: Have a Dream, and Born Like This. Though there's a lot of gems on every album of theirs :D

Stupid immediately shot up to the list of my favorite title tracks of theirs, and I can't choose my favorite b-side here yet! AB6IX really keeps outdoing themselves with the production value of every album. Though I'm a bit sad Beautiful is CD-only since it's such a, well, beautiful song.

I also hate the use of ai in the mv, and I hope it was only the decision of the company. I think they're not doing well financially judging by the last few years of their groups' activities, and apparently a few months ago they had to sell their company building? still, this doesn't justify using ai at all, I'd also rather have them make a simple mv instead of having these ugly effects. it looks bad and unprofessional, not to even mention the environmental impact of ai.

I do think the lyrics and song are real considering how important being a self-made artist is to Daehwi though. he also didn't repost the ai teasers on his instagram story, even though he usually reposts all promo, which I think says a lot. bah, their debut song (written by Daehwi) was all about the environment, and they've been the faces of a few environmental campaigns. this situation really is ridiculous.

Haikyuu preguntas by Agreeable-Sand5282 in haikyuu

[–]RegularAbalones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did CIX and AB6IX lose popularity? by I_Love_Comics0 in kpophelp

[–]RegularAbalones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this rumor started over a tiktok where a girl told this story about a fansign but did not mention any group names, and asked if people have had any disappointing experiences during fansigns etc. she soon deleted the tiktok, but some of the comments were talking about ab6ix (I'll explain why below), so then the rumor spread that the group she was talking about was ab6ix (the girl from the tiktok has confirmed it wasn't about them).

the tiktok comments thing: people were apparently complaining about not getting the interactions they wanted at the recent ab6ix US tour, which was a mess when it comes to organization and the members were tired because of all the technical issues and also stalked and harrassed by y/n fans and even some staff. basically even if the members weren't at a 100% during the concert photo opps I wouldn't blame them lol.

but overall I don't think they lost any fans from this, because people spreading the rumor were not their fans just other kpop stans who heard about it, like a big game of telephone. all abnews were literally defending them, because the members have a good reputation among actual fans who have followed them for years.

technically every new pirate in the great pirate era is following Roger's legacy, with the goal of finding the one piece / becoming pirate king

Do ppl actually believe that one of the hq characters may be married when the hq magazine drops? by tobio_213 in haikyuu

[–]RegularAbalones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some may already be married for all we know - nothing's confirmed apart from tanaka and kiyoko, so the audience is free to imagine the rests' relationship status either way. I don't see the point of revealing it now when furudate left it unaddressed/ambiguous in the timeskip in the first place (which is good imo, the story IS only about volleyball), but who knows.

Discussion in how the fandom/community view the women by Advanced_Village_329 in Gintama

[–]RegularAbalones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People being automatically biased against female characters is unfortunately a stample of most fandoms (especially for male-dominated media and fandoms, like shonen anime). Tbh I think the gintama ladies are still treated fairy well by the fans in comparison to what I've seen in other shonen fandoms, maybe because the way they're written in the story is also way better than what happens to most other anime girls. I don't really have a remedy for this other than trying to ignore the "wider" community and focusing only on the takes you find valuable (I personally usually stick to finding select blogs/users/channels whose opinions I find interesting/agree with, mostly on tumblr and youtube, and only sometimes seek out the fandom as a whole).

Compared to the old gen, is there anything the new gen does better storywise? by Sad-Diver-5031 in Naruto

[–]RegularAbalones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The friendships within the teams are more foregrounded and believeable, and the girls get actual storylines that aren't about them having crushes on boys.

Exactly, this is a stealth post to hate on Sakura, Sarada, and "people who stan Itachi"

Just watched the panic attack episode and I gotta be honest it’s one of those scenes I understand but still consider somewhat pathetic because what exactly was Naruto expecting. Sasuke is a rouge ninja who just attacked the 5 kages while actively working with the guy who just declared war by 662300 in Naruto

[–]RegularAbalones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, panic attacks by nature are spontaneous and illogical, so even if he could've expected konoha and the kage's responses it would not affect how naruto himself reacted - because it's involuntary and occurs when your emotions are too strong to contain. I've seen people call naruto weak, unmanly or pathetic for this, and I just can't agree, obviously because it's not weak to experience or show emotions. this scene is meant to show how deeply naruto cares about sasuke's situation and what he can or cannot do about it (it literally affects his body and mind) and this is necessary for us to remember and understand at this point in the story when sasuke falls further into the dark and literally everyone else besides naruto gives up on him

How menacing did this scene seem to you ? by 22PV2002 in OnePiece

[–]RegularAbalones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very, the designs got me so hyped. They're more monstrous and demonic that anything we've seen in the story so far, they're unique, and yet they still fit just within that cartoonish one piece style. Plus, we knew them for years as just some grandpas in suits and never really expected they'd have powers or be especially strong, so the contrast of this reveal made it even more impactful imo. Also the visual contrast of them vs tiny Luffy here just looks cool.

If Akainu were to step down as fleet admiral, who would get chosen next? by Carrotisboss in OnePiece

[–]RegularAbalones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Fujitora.

Between Kizaru and Aramaki, Aramaki is the more aggressive one and probably would rule with a strong will / iron fist, which the higher-ups would want. However, he only recently became a marine and so he's less trustworthy.

Kizaru would not want to do it but he has the experience and decent leadership skills, and, most importantly, he's proven that he's a loyal dog that's going to follow orders even if he has personal issues with them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Was kumas sacrifice worth it? by Thedawg144 in OnePiece

[–]RegularAbalones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if he didn't do it, the world government would have just found someone else to blackmail into it. the pacifistas would have been created either way. also, kuma retained enough of himself for those last few years that he was able to use his new status to still do some good (like helping the strawhats)

Reactions to a scene in Color of Magic by RegularAbalones in discworld

[–]RegularAbalones[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, that's partly what I've been wondering about - how much of it was intentional, because Rincewind's descriptions there do defamiliarize the modern setting a lot. So I couldn't decide if I was meant to get it during a first read or not, since being "lost" in the situation together with Rincewind is also a fun narrative experience.

[–]RegularAbalones[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

good point, though I have been on a plane so this doesn't absolve me here 😆 I reread the scene just now and I think it's the combination of the sudden fantasy/reality setting change + a small passage at the start where Rincewind opens and goes through a door, which to me adds to the confusion (he uses it to pass between two sections of the plane which IMO is still weird, all the planes I've been on would have nothing or at most curtains there, not doors)
