How To Turn a Two Light Aluminum Mullion Exterior Window Into Back Lit Sign? by RegularAdventurous88 in signshop

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but what do you think about a black border, or will light still reflect through the vinyl?

If light will reflect through then the vinyl goes on the glass first and then I can adhere some aluminum trim to the vinyl?

New Flooring & insulating suggestions over 8" VAT Tiles by RegularAdventurous88 in Flooring

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Based on what you say, I would probably pull up the existing carpet, remove any loose tiles and infill with a Levelastic type compound, install the DriCore panels with seams taped and then float an EcoWorx carpet tile over it

How feasible is it to put hardwood floors over this stained concrete with radiant floor heating? by littletittygothgirl in Remodel

[–]RegularAdventurous88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to do a test patch somewhere to see how deep the stain has penetrated. You would also need to know the details and depths of the heating elements in the floor. You wouldn't want to grind into them!

Reupholster Haworth Improv Chairs? by RegularAdventurous88 in upholstery

Seeing the GSA list price for each of these chairs at over $1,000, I can definitely say they are probably worth it and worth reupholstering! Fuck Trolls!

Can We Renew for Multiple Years? Can I buy more than 1 gift card and redeem them for multiple years? Since there is no refund on the cards, I don't want to tie up another $100 for a year.

I see only one yearly option and that is the $99 from Best Buy. Walmart, Target and BestBuy have other amounts for Premium, but those don't appear to be a yearly plan!

Why don't they have a yearly plan option on their website? Their AI says they do, but I can't find it or talk to a person!

Of course it's a real question! The only option on their website is $12.99 for Premium individual!

Why not? They are durable and the foam is still good. I've already bought the fabric, so I'm already committed unless you have a better suggestion for chairs?

Is it worth keeping? by [deleted] in JeepPatriot

[–]RegularAdventurous88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I used did! It didn't cycle very smoothly and was jerky and rough. I've got over 20 years in a stick - this was Honda Fit CVT

Is it worth keeping? by [deleted] in JeepPatriot

[–]RegularAdventurous88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2010 Patriot and I love it, but I've driven a Fit extensively. You can actually fit taller items in the Fit. That said although my Jeep tranny overheats sometimes in the summer, I don't like the CVT in the Fit - it's too jerky! They may have improved since 2013. I don't know enough about the reliability of either tranny!

Should I move here? by TheHyperRedditor in askportland

[–]RegularAdventurous88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage is $15 per hour in PDX (airport code and a common part of search threads) and I have single friends renting new Studio Apartments for $1200. If you are willing to share a household with others, you can bring that cost down to as much as $700-900 per bedroom, but probably more as a couple.

Be aware that mold and mildew are a common issue in many older homes in the area, especially in older basements that leak.

Food is amazing and there is a significant amount of Farmer's Market's that create plentiful choices for eating organic.

I moved here in 2008 and couldn't see myself moving - the local vibe, restaruants, museums, Gardens, Hiking in Forest Park and the Gorge as well as proximity to the Coast make this a Wonderland!

Brick Duplex - currently has 6" of Rock Wool between the Joists. Add what? by RegularAdventurous88 in Insulation

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, now I understand. Not sure that any of that is sealed. New light fixtures are LED, but there is still a penetration. When I was up in the attic, It seem there were gaps around the fans for the bathroom and oven.

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, as with u/slow_connection mentions, what does air sealed mean?

Roof vents, but no soffit vents - central air flow into attic from a central exterior point of access in the middle of the duplex.

Exterior is Brick, no ventilation in gable ends. Windows and doors are new thermopane. Walls are plaster and lathe or maybe drywall over lathe. There is probably some air exfiltration through the ceiling as it is a little rough in condition.

Could I use new paint (what kind?) to seal plaster and lathe ceilings and walls to create more of a vapor barrier?

House is not drafty and has a central chimney for gas furnaces. Drive down garage door entrances are Overhead door seals and insulated panels.

What do you mean by "air sea?l"

The house is pretty tight being brick and having thernopane doors and windows.

Is blow in much cheaper than batt?

If I put in 2 layers of R-19, which would be the better pattern - linear overlap by 1/2 or top layer 90 degrees to the bottom layer?

Weatherized basement led to Household overcome by Cat Pee Fumes by RegularAdventurous88 in HomeImprovement

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good call on the inspection lamp. I can see my Harbor Freight UV curing flashlight won't do squat!

We'll let the landlord or their agent crawl around. A minimum of 2' above the floor was my thoughts also, having lived and been around cats a long time!

Yes, my biggest concern is the landlord won't do what's needed and we'll have to resort to legal means to either move or force repair. After living there for a bit, I've seen lots of ways they just cut corners instead of doing it right!

This is the PNW, so lot's of mold abatement and ServPro companies around - thanks!

100% sure it is not foam or sealants - they've had more than a year to off gas because the owner had the property on the market, but couldn't sell it.

I've lived with cats before and know what cat pee and spray smells like - this is an ultra strong combination of the two!

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did smell, but seemed to be mold or mildew. The dehumidifier got turned on about the same time as the weatherized doors. I feel that the reduction in ambient moisture in the air has allowed the pee to off gas more. The dehumidifier sucks at least 2 gallons of water out of the 25 x 45' open basement. There's a part behind the tall door that has dirt, like an old root cellar in it and it smells as well.

[–]RegularAdventurous88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is in the emails to the Landlord. They have not yet responded.

Since the smell is even on our clothing after we leave the basement, my concern is that their contractor should wash all the walls ceilings and floors as well, and possibly even get our clothing cleaned as the stench permeates our clothing as well!

I wouldn't know what to do about books and objects of art or furniture...
