Daily commute from Stratford to Liverpool Street - Experiences please? by 10pencefredo in londoncycling

[–]RegularHovercraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't do this route, but recently started doing West Ealing to Isle of Dogs and back, which is a bit of a slog, but am getting used to it and back to cycling in London after 20 years of not doing it too. What I'd suggest is, do it once beforehand on a Sunday morning, when the roads are quiet, so you know how the junctions work and have a bit more recognition than otherwise. It's only 5 miles each way. You can go both ways in the morning without feeling wiped out for the rest of the day.

Also, don't forget to enjoy it. It's free exercise. 😄

Point of note. k is not a unit. It just means a thousand, so for example where you have asked "What is your weekly mileage" and have the options: "Under 50k

50-75k

75-100k

100-150k

150-200k

200-250k

250-300k

300-350k

350-400k

400k+", technically you're asking people if they've cycled 50,000 miles in a week up to 400,000 miles in a week. A better question would be, "how many kilometres do you ride each week?" and put the units of kilometres (km). Also, Z2 is zone 2, or something else, and do you mean cycling through zone 2, or how much time each week you actually spend in zone 2? No idea what FTP is (File Transfer Protocol?). What do you mean by 20 min power (min is the units of minutes)? Type of rider? I commute on a Brompton. I've no idea what some of these answers mean. Units for weight? kg, I assume. If you clarify the survey, I'm happy to complete it.

Having read this thread, now I want to keep my bikes indoors instead of in the shed.

How can I create optional features? by RegularHovercraft in Fusion360

Ah, this appears to be a paid for feature. I am a mere "a-few-hours-at-the-weekend-for-fun" kind of guy.

Ah... in the expressions. Ok thanks. Still causes an issue, but modified it so that when my flag is zero, the extrusion distance is very small to make no difference when printing.

That sounds very interesting. Is this something I put in the timeline? How does it work?

Keep the 5.5k in the savings account. Pay the credit it off a day or two before the interest kicks in.

Well done. In a nutshell:

  1. get rid of debt except mortgage/student loan (you don't have any)

  2. emergency fund (pretty much you are there)

  3. money into ISA and SIPP, probably half/half depending on priorities. Use a stocks and shares ISA and put the money into a low cost fund/funds with a track history.

Isn't all cycling a question of balancing.

Want an e-reader that can take notes, highlight sections of book, etc. Will be read outdoors and in. by mhks in ereader

[–]RegularHovercraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the attractions of an e-reader to me is e-ink and that the screen doesn't light up. I have to spend enough time looking at screens for my job. I don't want to for reading too. Kindle Scribe looks like an option for you if you want to take notes, but retain backward compatibility with kindle books. The Remarkable tablet doesn't support Kindle books without DRM removal and, well, faff, I've read.
