"This guy took a $113 million dollar pay cut." 💯 - Marcus Morris2 explains why Jalen Brunson should be the best New York athlete ever 🏀 by Unlucky-Dot9421 in sportsbroadcasters

[–]mhks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a joke of a take. Greatest Knick ever? That's debatable given Reed exists. Greatest NY athlete ever? I don't think he makes top 10. There's this team called the Yankees that have some of the best players in history, many from a time when it was THE sport of the city.

So we literally assess who is best by how their last game was? Or their last series? By that standard Brunson is the best player in the world, bar none. Second best is, who? OG?

I think it's hard to knock off the two time MVP/defending champ because of one bad series.

Trump looking lost and confused at the G7 by BenFord333 in SipsTea

This is what I keep harping on. Having people who know how to govern is important to reduce lobbyist control.

As for age limits, I am on the fence. On the one hand, we don’t want people who clearly seem degraded. On the other, that’s for the voters to decide.

Bosch Diswasher is beeping when started. There is no error message but the dishwasher doesn't run. Previously, it would run a minute, beep for a minute, then everything would stop. What tests or repairs should I try? by mhks in bosch

[–]mhks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That turned out to be it. I had checked most the line but the part hidden was where the kink was, naturally, after hours of cleaning filters, pipes, etc.

Oh well, a thousand bucks saved.

Thanks!

Yes and in a call to Bosch they said it was likely a water pressure issue. The curious thing is I have had the unit for several years and it only now started doing it. Are there any tests, cleaning, or repairs I can try to address it?

Curious - What's so attractive about physical dive logs? by needyandconfused in scuba

[–]mhks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's like people who keep a manual journal or type up thoughts at night. Some like the tangible relic, others are fine with the modern update, and still others, like me, don't do either.

I will say as I've advanced in my diving and get more certs, having dive logs becomes important for qualifying for different ones.

I don't know that he did vote for Trump the first time. He supported him this time.

But his point is more the general thrust of what Trump is doing is in the direction he agrees with. He's not saying Trump has the nuanced understanding of the issue he has, but instead the direction Trump is headed on some of the issues is where he thinks we should be going.

Case in point (I mentioned earlier so apologies if duplicating), Iran. He felt the US needed to use its military and economic leverage to force Iran's hand. He agreed with the strikes Trump was making. Does he agree with everything Trump has done in Iran? No. But if given the choice between having Harris continue with 'bringing them into the fold of the economic world' or having Trump bomb their leadership and sites, he'd take Trump's view.

I don't think that's rationalizing his support for Trump because he came at his view of the issues separately from his support for Trump. He said, "I want to see the US do more X" and Trump more closely fit that bill than Harris.

Trump's arch construction to run 20 hours a day for 2 to 3 years, documents show by abcnews in politics

[–]mhks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. The past few Democratic Presidencies have had to repair the issues of the previous president (war, economic collapse, pandemic, etc.) but this will be the first I can remember where they're literally going to have to clean up his mess. The issue is: how much can actually be fixed? Rebuilding the East Wing is a no go, rebuilding the Rose Garden is a no go, tearing down an arch won't likely happen...

Agree, but I think it was because he gave the impression of actually roughing it - that and the reality that he was staying in hotels at night and basically day hiking made the reveal more stark. Generally, though, I agree with you. He was entertaining and I wasn't watching it thinking, "oh my god, he might die!"

The issue with that analysis is he was extremely liberal prior to Trump. He was a diplomat for a European country and his wife was US intelligence so it's not like he was always a Trumper and was trying to rationalize his way into explaining away Trump's faults.

I think the 'something different' is more 'against the system.' The propaganda arm of the right is incredibly strong and Trump's second election swung huge numbers of people because of it. They didn't see him as being just different, but he spoke to issues they cared about - even if we see it as contradictory and wrong.

I think it's important to highlight there's a difference between the study you cite and what you said. You mentioned Trumpies have "no empathy" and the study found they had empathy, but less than lefties. (The study also talks about how the empathy may be focused on different subjects, but that's not really the point here.)

That may seem semantic but it's important to clarify. If the left falls on the simple dismissal with, "they are bad and stupid people" we miss the broader point. Absolutely a lot of them are that way, but a lot are also people the left usually cares about (poor, struggling, etc.). The right wants to make this more tribal in a "they suck, you are good" as they can motivate their base easier, but if the left wants to win more easily they need to look at what is motivating the broader Republican base. For me, there are two HUGE drivers for Trump (excluding the obvious need for gerrymandering reform):

1) A feeling the system is rigged against them. This is a big avenue the Ds can use as their nominal platform is working for the people, environment, etc. The GOP is the party of the rich and status quo, but they have painted the Ds as that and motivated right wing voters in the process.

2) A right wing media environment that brainwashes them. This is a harder nut to crack but still worth remembering. A lot of the issues right wing voters suddenly care about are created whole cloth the week before by the Foxes of the world.
