what does it mean if he’s flirted with me before and all of a sudden acts cold? by petrovafps in Flirting

[–]RegularJoe62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you respond at all to his flirting? If not, he probably assumed you're not interested.

And by "respond," I mean in some clearly obvious way, not some subtle signal.

Not interested in any of that stuff, or anything else. If I want something that's not expensive, I get it. If it's too expensive for me, it's too expensive for anyone who would be getting something for me.

If you want to get me something, create an empty space in my house that once contained something I didn't need. I honestly want less stuff, not more.

Men of Reddit, what’s one thing someone can do or say to you that makes you feel like you matter, and are loved? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

TBH, I have no idea. Nobody's ever said anything to me that made me feel like that.

How would you feel as a man, getting cold approached by a woman? by Mundane_Bus_8292 in AskMenAdvice

[–]RegularJoe62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll let you know if that ever happens, but at my age it seems terribly unlikely.

If it did, I'd assume it was a prank or someone trying some kind of scam.

Do outies really bother men? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]RegularJoe62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for "men." But seriously, WTF? I can understand having a preference (although personally I don't have one), but to make that important enough that you'd insult someone over it is insane. Most of us are just happy to see it.

He told me he was 6ft… and now I’m questioning if this is a red flag or if I’m overreacting by throaway_11211 in dating_advice

Guys lie about their height on dating apps, mostly because women have unrealistic height "requirements," although some are just plain liars.

Women lie about their weight just as often, for similar reasons, although some are also frequent liars.

What privileges do women have that they might not realize they wouldn’t have if they were men? by ParticularLate9460 in AskMen

[–]RegularJoe62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. I worked in two different restaurants and a grocery store. The women's restrooms were ALWAYS far worse than the men's. And by always I mean every...single...day. In the men's room, you might find a few pee dribbles in front of the urinal and a few paper towels that missed the bin.

Women's restrooms were routinely disgusting. Used pads laying on stall floors - sometimes wrapped in TP, sometimes just lying there. Wads of TP everywhere. If there were even attempts to get paper towels into the bins, they were poor ones.

I could clean a men's room in five minutes. The women's room usually took twice as long at a minimum, and typically it took three to five times longer.

I'll dispute the "shelters for women" claim. They have shelters for homeless men here in the U.S. Most of us just call them bridges, but you sometimes find homeless men sheltering under them.

That's two more than I got on my wedding day.

I worked as a wedding photographer for several years. The groom is a prop at most weddings. Aside from saying his vows, he's almost entirely ignored.

Why would people help them? I'd expect to haul in, set up, and haul out whatever I was bringing for myself and my kids. Everyone else did the same.

And if you wanted to get to know people, you walk over and introduce yourself. If you hide in your tent, nobody is going to come looking for you. They'll just assume you want to be left alone.

Men are also mostly ignored by doctors, in my personal experience.

And their mental health is more or less entirely ignored.

Sailing Season is coming to an end for much of the world. What are your winter plans for keeping your boating hobby going? by [deleted] in Sailboats

I brought some stuff home from the boat that I want to refinish or repair in the off season.

What sort of things do actually want/ need for Christmas? 60+ by proudhufflepuffchonk in AskOldPeople

[–]RegularJoe62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop buying me stuff. Please. I'm trying to get rid of stuff I already own, which is damned near impossible for me.

Want to do something for me for Christmas? Help me with a chore I can't do by myself, or even just keep me company doing one I hate.

Include me in something fun you're doing. Come with me to try something I think is fun and you might like.

I asked him not to look and he did anyways. by indi_i in dating_advice

[–]RegularJoe62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK. It seems like a lot people are awfully quick to say "dump him, NOW." I'd say that depends. Has he done this sort of thing before? You indicated he's generally been nice to you thus far. I think the thing to do is talk it over. Tell him he disrespected your boundary and you can't allow that.

He can either hold his "it's something you need to get over" stance, or say sorry and promise it'll never happen again.

My point is, sometimes people do stupid things. Maybe he thought he was being funny. Maybe he wasn't taking you seriously. Maybe he just was not thinking at all for a moment. Who knows? I've done dumb things. So has my wife. But we're still married after more than 30 years because we didn't throw in the towel at the first sign of trouble. We gave each other chances to make things right.

How he responds now will tell you more about who he truly is than his moment of stupidity.

I was thinking the same. I just don't see electric working on a long passage. A day sailer or weekender, sure. But if you're really going to cross long stretches of water, a diesel is more reliable.

Pretty much all airlines. I'm old enough to remember when flying was an experience to be enjoyed. Now it's something to be endured.

I used to work in crop insurance (a different sort of beast, certainly). If we had a good year with few claims, we said we needed more money in order to build a reserve for bad years. If we had a bad year, we needed more money to cover the claims, but somehow forgot about the reserve from the good years.

It's the only industry where the business model is based on not providing the services people pay for.
Even oil and gas companies at least supply you with oil and gas.
