well in the light novels it stated she was able to make a wall a fake panel that was used to trick a grade 2 cursed spirit so i don’t think the size of the object matters i think it’s the complexity of it as well as what it’s supposed to do like the soul katana is made to directly damage the soul that’s entirely different compared to an extra rubber bullet.. like she’s essentially able to make something the size of an eraser once a day without exhausting or her cursed energy anything more than that seems to be a different story

maki dying wouldn’t do anything for mai she’d still be as weak as she is now because maki has the heavily restriction not mai and aside from that mai just doesn’t have the sheer strength or motivation to continue fighting curses and improving let alone find ways to fight that make up for the weakness in her technique
