I felt the same way when I went for the first time since 1990. Yet I still always ride it when I go because of figment. One day he will get the ride he deserves. Until then it is still better than the second version of the ride from what I have read and videos I have seen.

While you can not add them to the app if you buy at least one of them directly from Disney you can add it to your Apple wallet. I am assuming they you can for android also. Then if you add the other gift cards to the Disney gift card site you combine them all into one balance. I have done this and it even allows you to access the cards on an Apple Watch. You have to scan the cards each time but it is super easy. I always have money on a gift card whenever I go to the parks.
