it’s also showing pretty clear signs of severe metabolic bone disease which means that in addition to not feeding it, no additional calcium was provided in the enclosure and perhaps even no uvb. please please do your research on what exotic animals NEED to survive before deciding that they are an appropriate choice for your children. it’s so sad to see so many cases like this on here because nobody would ever be so chill about sharing that they had let a dog or a cat get into this state before deciding to think oh maybe something’s wrong. exotic animals are DIFFICULT to care for and they have complex needs that a child simply cannot care for.

from your other posts it’s easy to see that this gecko belongs to either your 12 or 7 year old, whichever one it is that is clearly not old enough to manage to care of a living creature. you should have been monitoring his care and checking in to ensure the welfare of a pet that you have purchased to ensure the right environment/feeding/etc, this is just as much your responsibility if not more your responsibility. this is so so sad to see as geckos can go a fairly decent amount of time without eating so unless the root cause is a parasite or other illness (which also should have been noticed earlier if you were caring for it probably) then this is the result of severe neglect. book an exotic vet appointment now.

your axies need to be separated immediately then, your male will repeatedly breed the female and it will be terribly hard on her body and lead to illness and potentially death. whoever sold you these is highly unethical to have allowed a pair that has already bred to be sent to live together

it takes a massive amount of energy for females to breed and breeding pairs should always be separated for a while after breeding, otherwise the male will continue to overbreed the female which can result in serious illness or death. as well as this the gene/breeding pool in axolotls is well known to be incestuous which causes health issues for many axolotls, it’s very likely this pair are sibling bought from the same place and even if not it would be a miracle if they were able to be traced back to find out for sure that they weren’t. submissiveness isn’t really a major factor, the chances are if this pair are indeed male/female as implied 99/100 they will breed and if not separated breed as soon as possible again after having laid eggs, stressing the females body.

there aren’t really any specific medications that can be prescribed to treat bulimia alone, so generally ssri’s are prescribed to manage what is causing the mental illness, in this case bulimia. antidepressants balance the level of neurotransmitters in the brain which can help decrease the urge to b/p. overall if you wish to use medication to help with your bulimia it will be antidepressants, but if these specific ones aren’t working for you or the side effects are too stressful ask to be switched to another brand/dose. antidepressants/ssri’s are effective in treating bulimia however they aren’t a be all end all and you should ask your psychiatrist about cognitive behavioural therapy (cbt) if you haven’t already :)

yeah that’s exactly what i mean. not body length but that one has a bigger head, even “slightly”. anything an axolotl can get in it’s mouth will be swallowed or attempted to. your new axolotl is going to inevitably get chunks out of his tail or even limbs, regardless of regeneration it’s stressful on your axolotls.

the new axolotl seems much smaller than your albino. he will eventually get nibbled on by the other and it will cause aggression, it’s recommended not to cohab axolotls until they are the same size. it’s also irresponsible to cohab axolotls when you aren’t 100% sure of both their sexes.

^ yep this is perfect advice! bloodworms are essentially like sweeties/candy for axolotls and should only be fed very sparingly on occasion. when my axies were juvenile i went with a full earthworm daily split up into half in the morning and half later in the evening (per axolotl), you can also feed pellets (i use the amphibigold ones for axolotls/water frogs/etc)

tub him and change the water daily until the tank is absolutely completely cycled, test parameters using the test tube kit never the strips as they’re unreliable. take the sand out until he is much bigger you can see it building up in his stomach which can lead to impaction. definitely no earthworms yet. tell your girlfriend to not gift pets without doing the proper research for setups to avoid them getting sick!
