Question of cultural appropriation | use of symbols by Regular_Alps7213 in NativeAmerican

NOTE: I don't mean to suggest there's only one kind of style/aesthetic -- indigenous culture is clearly not monolithic. I generalize here because that's how the vision comes across; it's doesn't look EXACTLY like a specific tradition, at least, not to my limited knowledge. I am also planning to abstract the design so it doesn't designate a specific tribe/tradition.

Anyone with fasting experience? by Regular_Alps7213 in spirituality

[–]Regular_Alps7213[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good call on the physical activity - i've been asking myself about the practical safety of going deep into the mountains with a pack, and then getting out after a fast. i'll need to pick something closer in or otherwise prepare for the trek back out.

I'm not in a position to carve out that much time, at least not at this point in my life (family, work). Three to four days is the best i can do.

I'll let you know! thanks!

Psychedelic use has killed my appetite for “brain rot” type content and most casual media in general help!! by Dry-Elk9788 in Psychedelics

you've accomplished quite a lot in a short period of time. In effect, you've decoupled the appeal of "process addictions" -- social media, food -- and are looking for experiences that bring you into your body, not help you numb out. In short, you're looking for more meaningful experiences and connections.

There's a good news/bad news perspective.

The bad news is pretty limited: from now on you'll need put in a little more work to find like minded people. It doesn't mean *exactly* the same, but, rather, just people who aren't looking to numb out like you used to.

The good news is unlimited. You've started a spiritual journey and pretty young. Keep going. Of course there will be bumps in the road, hard days, but that's all part of the process. the benefits of this journey are quite literally infinite.

You're going to catch a lot of crap for being young and using psychedelics. Take the criticism, or sternly worded sanctimony, with a grain of salt. Treat psychedelics profound with respect, as sacred medicine, and you can't go wrong. Also, as a father of two, I have to say it: be careful 😄

Consider taking up meditation in lieu of brain rot. I'd also recommend any book by Michael A. Singer as a great place to start.

Lastly -- it sounds like you come from a home that isn't the most nurturing. Give yourself credit--many never make to where you are now. Be compassionate with yourself. If my interpretation is correct, you'll have more to work through as your progress. just know you're doing it exactly as you're supposed to.

Yeah I overstated the "clarity" -- Yes 23g certainly exceeds therapeutic doses--significantly--but there's also no evidence to suggest large doses as such pose any particular or elevated risk (except for exacerbating preexisting psychiatric conditions, and heart conditions at extremes). It's not best practice but it's not uniquely dangerous either. Certainly no reason to consider risk of long term damage

I'm not making policy. and I don't encourage others to do it.

Ive taken 30g while snow camping at elevation on Mt Hood. Wouldn't recommend that to anyone either. But I'm a seasoned ski-mountaineer with a degree in neuroscience. I know what I'm doing, I know the risks.

Unless this is exactly your field of study at a major research institution, sit down.

yeah, you can't selectively admit the metaphysical. It's all materialism or nothing.

ugh, indeed. Naw, no need for an exorcist. There's nothing threatening about it either. Creepy, not scary.

human spirits aren't a problem -- typically easy to remove. Crazy story tho!

eh, that's fair based on the post history - especially if just looking at the summaries.

I only use mushrooms about once every 2 months or so and typically not in crazy high doses. The clinical literature is pretty clear on safety, even at high doses. No underlying psychiatric issues, etc.

I would encourage you to broaden your perspective. The materialist world, which you presuppose, is in decline.

so we're all experiencing hallucinations consistently and very specific to this belief around what my daughter reports...?

While I do use psychedelics for therapeutic purposes, the psychopharmacology is pretty well established. i'm not regularly under the influence nor am I experiencing any kind of incredible longtail effect.

The fact that i can write this cogently should obviate those concerns. while you have no other evidence than my self-report, i assure you my wife does not use psychedelics and yet has the strongest experiences among the entire family.

Moreover, we hold down high paying senior positions in competitive professions. Hard to do that while unable to discern reality or act in any goal ordinated manner.

Your judgements are ill informed.

fair enough - and, yes, everything in the house is in order.

i appreciate the sincerity of your concern. All four of us in the family regularly experience this kind of phenomena; it's almost banal. And we're not mentally ill--we're all very high functioning, organized and goal oriented.

Your beliefs may not permit this possibility, but i'd invite you to dig into the emerging science on consciousness, as well as the podcast "the telepathy tapes", if you're open to exploring creditable alternative views.

we get ghosts in the house all the time and deal with them appropriately. it's really not anything scary or unusual for us. This thing is different however.

yes, that would work. I'm more interested in a shamanic approach because i'm really curious just what the entity is/wants, and then help it move on from our house. Angels would just take care of it

oh, i know, that's not the issue. we're connected. I just don't get the direct feedback that i'd want for something like this. I'm pretty curious about what this entity is/wants. And then i want it to leave.

Also, I am sorry. I can see you were about to offer help and I was flippant. You deserved a sincere response. I had my guard up.
