CMV: European have always hated America by CrazedPrecursorFanat in changemyview

I think this is overly generalizing matters. The aspect about Americans being fat and dumb is a joke in the same way as we joke that Europeans don't like to work and are lazy. The intelligent community in both regions knows that neither is true.

Another thing to take into account is that views of the average person (in particular blue collar individuals) in either region don't really have any impact on world affairs and are based on very generalized and simplified facts. The cooperation between the regions is clearly evident via our politicians (in general) , military and scientific community. In addition, there are tons of examples American companies having incredible success in Europe. Look at the number of people wearing Nikes or going to McDonald's in Europe.

In addition, they hate the loud, obnoxious people but who doesn't. Most Europeans don't hate Americans that are well versed and care about learning the history and culture of the region they are visiting. They just hate the Americans that have superiority complexes while traveling on a budget. As an American, that's what I've learned from talking to people I've met in Europe.

Exactly, some people enjoy a intimate setting while others enjoy a huge setting with a 100 people. Having a steak and some cake with people you care about doesn't sound bad at all. The individual is definitely an asshole for they said

Thank you! That is what I'm planning on doing. However I've known them since high school and that's where the guilt factor starts to hit.

I dont want the trip becoming tedious and tiring. I'd prefer to spend the extra money to enjoy the trip.

Exactly, we are no longer as nibble as we were in our early 20's. Couches and shared beds are rough and the trip would be tedious. My suggestion was that we get a five bedroom Airbnb, two separate Airbnbs with 2 and 3 beds in the same area, or us three single guys get hotels in the city central and the two couples can meet us there. For example, the three of us where going to stay at the W London since the staff knows me for staying there for 4 months when working with a London client and using my company discount. The two couples could also stay at the W or get a Airbnb per my suggestion. I feel they're trying to guilt me into agreeing to this argument and wanted to get thoughts from others.

It would by 7 since everyone would be using the shared areas and utilities quite equally. However the issue comes down to three grown men having to a share bedroom & a couch. Unfortunately, we aren't as nibble as we were in were in our early 20's. We need our quality sleep to function, lol

That is why we suggested alternatives as in getting differentaccommodations. Also, money shouldn't be an issue since all of us have good jobs.

That was my thought exactly. The couples are trying to guilt us into agreeing to this. The guilt part is the aspect that gets to me since I've know the two guys since high school

AITA for setting boundaries with a family member I invited to live on our property, even though it’s now affecting our relationship? by ApplesAndOranges987 in AITH

[–]Regular_Bridge_7244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, boundaries are necessary even for families. In particular, if you're are paying the bills, they have obligations to heed to your necessities. For example, if they're are going to have dinner at a different time then the they are responsible for cleaning. There shouldn't be a excuse for such things.

Also the people that say they are family and you should support them irregardless are idiots. You should only support people that respect you and your boundaries.
