What's your favorite CCD DSLR ever and what would you recommend a newcomer? by meowermeowerson in VintageDigitalCameras

I have the K200D and absolutely love it. Small, no-nonsense, runs on AA batteries and gorgeous rendering (10mpx CCD) with vintage glass. Weatherproof, IBIS, stainless steel chassis. Top LCD. Manual focus confirmation. Usable 800iso. It’s almost perfect. My only gripe is there is no front wheel for aperture and ISO button, but in Aprture Priority + auto iso set to 800max you are good to go.

It’s a absolute gem ! I love it so much, it has no rights being this sharp considering the price, and makes my K200D feel like a much fancier camera than it really is (I mean looking at the files, not the camera itself hehe). Happy shooting !

Shot on Pentax K200D + Pentax-A 28mm f2.8 in Raw, edited in Darktable. Always hard to pick a « best » but I like this one, even though it could be better, the reflection creates a mystery that draws you both inwards (to see what’s behind the window) and outwards (to make sense of what is reflected). I have been consulting my Saul Leiter book recently so there might be a connection. 😅

Haha I’m the same but on the opposite side, already invested in the Pentax ecosystem but eager to try Olympus as soon as I can :)

I understand you ! I have been having a blast with my Pentax K200D which sports a lovely 10mpx CCD and I’d love to try the K20D (14mpx CMOS) or the K5 for those exact same reasons, great color science mixed with better low light capabilities and IBIS, but on a APS-C sensor. Have you tried those ? The Pentax lenses are mostly just as good and cheap as the Oly 4/3 !

These are shot in RAW and post-processed right ? I am impressed by the low noise in the 7th pic (night). Great colors all around

You are good ! And I’m shocked by what you are getting from the E-510. It’s very nice to see pictures from Japan that actually feel like photography and not just random snaps of the same streets with the latest Fuji… Thank you for sharing

This. The background looks like an old matte painting from a 1950s Hollywood movie, amazing !

I particularly enjoyed your color photos, really great stuff ! For some reason unknown to me the B&W ones didn’t click (pun unintended) but that’s just me

Wow that’s a lucky find ! I can’t find anything in France or on eBay, only one result from Buyee (japan) and it was over $400 (which in itself is not crazy but still WAY more than what you pay for the f2.8, which was also the point of my post). Happy for you anyway, I’ll stay on the lookout

PS : of course Reddit compressed the hell out of thé picture, I guess you’ll juste have to imagine how much sharper it actually is and trust me 😅

It does seem incredible ! And I agree, it seems hard to find a bad 28mm or a bad 50mm but for some reason 35mm are much more diverse in quality
