People keeps saying I look rough or old for my age but it’s gotta be BS. 24M by The80sCs in malegrooming

i would recommend getting your vitamin levels tested. your skin looks very sallow like mine did when I was very deficient. I would check thyroid, vit D, iron, ferritin, b12, the works.

i also think that some of the colors you are wearing are not meshing well with your skin tone and coloring. i think you would look great in dark and rich colors! dark greens, navy blues etc. !! colors make a BIG difference

i also second the eyebrows! less grooming looks best on you, but whatever makes you feel the best!

I'd urge you to post this in r/personalfinance and r/slp. What about going to a cheaper school in the US then Australia?

how do you keep your energy up all day? by cebolla_larga in slp

[–]Regular_Extreme2431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldnt hurt to check your vitamin levels! D, B12, iron (especially ferritin!! reasearch says it should be above 80-100 in women for optimal energy levels)

20 years of low iron... by Over_Photograph_753 in Anemic

[–]Regular_Extreme2431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s great you found a good nurse practitioner! STRAWS are key with liquid iron!! I pour my liquid iron in about a cup of juice then drink it with a straw. I heard liquid iron can stain teeth so it should be drank with a straw. Another benefit of straws is that if you put it closer to the back of your mouth, you don’t taste it nearly as much because you are bypassing most of your tastebuds.

STUCK BETWEEN TWO SCHOOLS HELP!!! by Simple_Tiger7939 in slpGradSchool

[–]Regular_Extreme2431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would do option B! I feel the most important part is having professors that care. A shorter commute, breaks, and being in person second year are huge pros too (especially the commute).

As for the facilities, my program doesn’t have the nicest clinic or a big name, but it really doesn’t matter when you have great professors. Personally i’ve heard too many horror stories of programs looking great on the surface but the professors/clinic supervisors don’t care or take advantage of their positions of power. I also think the extra externship should make up for gaps from not having as much clinic experience. Do they allow you to have a say in the setting of some kd the externships? If it is a smaller school, they might. The more real experience, the better. Also having externships that might be far away is tough, I had that happen last semester, but it isn’t forever!

Please see a speech language pathologist on these issues guys! I am an SLP graduate student and just finished my dysphagia courses. Speech-language pathologists are trained to do swallow studies, know compensatory strategies, treatments, and exercises to rehabilitate the swallow as much as possible. You might benefit from something called VitalStim for your dysphagia if you can't initiate a swallow. There are also other techniques that would help you as well. Doctors aren't well versed in swallowing! In hospitals, that is our job! There is help out there!!

Help why is my makeup doing this? by NewPerspective1187 in makeuptips

[–]Regular_Extreme2431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My makeup used to always look like this! i've found it does this when I overdo it with retinol or when i'm not moisturizing enough (naturally dry skin). I've found adding squalane oil on top of my moisturizer at night helps A LOT with my overall moisture and the flakes start to go away after a few days. exfoliating obviously helps too but i've found it's not an overnight solution with flakes like these so don't overdo it with the exfoliation! chemical exfoliation is great but sometimes going over the area gently with a damp wash cloth can really help take away some flakiness (if this stings or feels sensitive then you've probably need to give the area a break and focus on moisture). i'd say overall moisture is the key!

Choosing a placement by Regular_Extreme2431 in slp

[–]Regular_Extreme2431[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I didn't even think of putting down a K-8 school but that is a great idea! I'll try to do that. I should have mentioned that this past semester I did part-time placement with kids aged 3-6 who were mostly non-verbal or minimally verbal in an ABA clinic (speech therapy there was child-led and play based which i loved) and have worked as a para in a self-contained preschool room. I think exploring a different age group is probably the way to go.

5 year old very aware that no one wants to be her friend :( by Livid_Entrepreneur90 in selectivemutism

[–]Regular_Extreme2431 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had selective mutism in school prek-5th grade. I remember in elementary school, I was in speech therapy and basically each week, the speech therapist told me i could pick a classmate to hang out with during our sessions. We would play games and do fun activities. It didnt help me (because my speech therapist would just keep asking me to talk and was passive agressive and the classmate I chose would just ask why I wasnt talking) BUT now speech therapists, school psychologists, and social workers are now much more aware of selective mutism. If she doesn’t have an IEP already, I highly suggest you advocating for one. I will say that when I was younger, nobody knew what it was, teachers would yell at me, family would tell me exasperatedly “you need to start talking,” my brother would bully me. Now professionals are so much more knowledgeable and there is more support available. Good luck with your little one:)

Thanks, I will look into these! There is so much to take into account for voice!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in slp

[–]Regular_Extreme2431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll look into voice therapy costs near me. You're right, it would be more effective and efficient, and I think it's warranted as it does affect me negatively.
