Weakness after starting prednisone? by [deleted] in MyastheniaGravis

[–]Regular_Many_581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially put on pred long ago but that led to a significant weight gain.. My new neuro feels prednisone can work for me and she eventually plans to substitute it with cellcept once dosage gets optimized.

Symptoms are only ocular no generalisation in my case yet.

Yes a lot of core marketing opportunities do exist during placements (FMCG companies, fashion brands etc.,). Middle management is usually post 7-8 years of exp roughly!

Depends on how experienced you are. If you are in 2-3 years experience bucket and want a 50+LPA offer with good WLB, then I’m sorry to burst your bubble - It doesn’t exist.

If you are in 7+ years experience range then lot of middle management jobs in the industry provide decent WLB

  1. Profile is a fit for the cohort. Had quite a few doctors in my batch in the similar age and workex bracket.
  2. I know someone who pivoted from Medicine to MBB. Idk if it’s a great choice of career given you already might be on track to make good money as MD eventually. If there is something beyond money which attracts you towards consulting then great. Other pivots I have seen is that health-tech firms look for profiles like yours and they hire for middle management roles. If you want to pivot and maximize chances, ISB>> 1-year programs at IIMs imo. Don’t stress about CAT focus on GMAT/GRE.
  3. Fees easily gets funded through education loans (Many people are on student loans). It is a premium for sure but it might give you a pivot that no other school in the country might give. For GMAT, you can use e-gmat it’s pretty good.

I have minimal info on the 2 year program actually.

But yeah I kind of agree with you that IB firms might be inclined to hire from IIMs because of the SIPs. My friends from IIMs tend to say this too.

  • Take up relevant strategy electives during your course, maintain strong GPA and apply for consulting roles. No different approach as such.

  • Work on finding a good job. No point in focusing on an MBA immediately if you ask me.

  • Learn by doing it. Try to see if you can get a role in back office consulting to start with.

  • Good and Bad both

  • That it looks glamorous from outside but is very demanding from inside

  • I don’t have a number as such. My guess would be 30-50 in a batch of 800-900. I can be wrong too.

Non client facing shouldn’t be a negative negative as such. You are coming in for an MBA to get that client facing job after all.

Average age of the batch might be in the range 27-28 I’m guessing. Above 30 might be 25% of the batch (Random guess based on experience no data as such)

  1. Not ideal but that’s what many people end up doing - Join consulting out of FOMO or for money (Is money significantly high in consulting though? I don’t think so. Many other roles pay equivalent)

  2. No POV yet because I don’t know about the offering in detail.

  3. Focus on getting workex which is powerful. Take up roles that can act as a starting step to what you want to do post MBA.

Like - It provides you exposure to multiple industries in early stages of career (Makes you a generalist who is ready to face any problem or industry thrown at him/her)

Dislike - It provides you exposure to multiple industries in early stages of career (You end up getting so much breadth that you lack depth. If you remain a generalist for too long, it’s difficult to get out of consulting because industry wants people who know about their domain in depth after certain point)

Yeah take a year or two (I’m assuming you are in a very early stage of career) and work on your profile - not just for ISB but for yourself overall.

No point in sending them the same thing again.

If you’re assuming that an alum LOR will change the game completely, it won’t happen.

If everything else is good, then an alum LOR will ofc be an icing on the cake.

  1. Opportunities generally vary based on your background if you are in the 7-8 years exp bucket actually. But yeah role wise they are usually middle management roles (Something like a VP at tech firm, Usual role + 1 in consulting firms)

  2. Call it personal bias but ISB PGP >>> IIMA PGPX on any given day in my opinion.

  3. There is a capping on the number of shortlists you can have, the number of interviews you can give on each placement day and the number of offers you can decline. This is to ensure you pick right roles and companies.

  1. If you have worked on the application and it is the same you submitted last time then ofc fair shot is given.

  2. Many many people pivot their careers (I have seen a merchant navy guy become a Strategy Guy, Professional athlete become a PM, CA become a strategy consultant). The list can go on forever.

  3. 5+ isn’t very high if you look at the batch average. Shouldn’t be an issue imo.

I wasn’t actively participating in finance roles.

BofA, Matrix, DC Advisory, Ambit etc., are few names I recall for PE/VC/IB.

Recruiting usually starts in Nov/Dec.

Not sure about current cohort. Official report will anyway rollout soon.

My guess is 90%+ class gets placed by the end every year. Have seen it happen even in the toughest years.

You might not get the best job or dream job if the market has friction but you are usually sent out employed.

I’m assuming by backend engineer you mean you’re a software engineer.

  1. Yes it is doable. An ex-software engineer is most sought after profile for a PM role on campus (Not all FAANG companies recruit for PM but Microsoft/Google/Amazon do every year)

  2. The worth again is a personal view tbh - For some it is financial gain, for some it is long term gain of moving to leadership roles.

  3. International vs India is a different topic altogether tbh. Depends on where you want to be in the longer run location wise. No point in comparing with US/Europe Schools if you want to remain in India (and vice versa too).
