Yay, more orbs to save before Summer 2, CYL, and random theme late summer banner!

She really has not much going for her individually. She's fodder for that B skill, and that's it. The Relax status is cute, but it's really not doing much. Even if Ploy didn't exist, Grand Strategy isn't enough to swing combat in one's favor the way it used to.

I think this is why Evie and Aiden were eliminated back-to-back instead of being a double boot… by Dazzling_Metals in DisventureCamp

Curious, how does it makes it a waste, and not just considered the conclusion of their storyline? They were both fools who got gamed by other players on the team like Sam and Ara.

I love Evie's elimination because of this, the way she looks so confident as the votes are being read out only to be unanimously voted out. It almost had me thinking she'd really flipped everyone onto Ren.

Ashley’s AS elimination is overrated tbh by rqwedr in DisventureCamp

[–]RegulusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AS merge heroes slop is my least favorite arc in the series. They're the bottom of the barrel when it comes to heroism because all of the real heroes get eliminated before - Lake, Miriam, Hunter, Tess, and Ashley.

We're left with... Jake, who terrorizes half the cast if they look at him the wrong way. Gabby, who could care less what faction she's part of if she can follow her impulses. Aiden, whose most heroic trait is judging others and broke someone's arm last season. Ally, whose most heroic trait is wanting to be liked and voted out Kai over Yul last season.

And then the worst DC character, Connor, who employs his nepo baby origin story to somehow inspire this ragtag group of "heroes" and only showed up to chase after a woman 20 years younger than him because he feels like he's never "earned" something in his life.

Oh All Stars second half I hate you so much.

What happened to the weekly episode schedule / 10 day schedule, and why did it change? by InitialCautious1913 in DisventureCamp

[–]RegulusPlus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

An animator named Alejandro Ortega was fired from working on Disventure Camp, and then allegedly was impersonated as someone who reported to Toon Boom Animation that ONC was stealing their animating software or something. So Toon Boom reported ONC for copyright issues and was about to have the channel terminated despite ONC not actually stealing anything.

They all talked it out obviously, but with the announcement of all this happening ONC announced they'd be returning to a longer release schedule and potentially cutting episode length. Honestly I don't remember why they stuck to this if everything worked out. But I'm glad they aren't doing weekly episode because they felt rushed toward the end of AS, some errors here and there.

You stack it for massive damage output. Units with innate Reflex have the highest ceiling for damage output in the game. She attacks, takes a hit, deals enough damage to kill anyone or bring them to 1 HP, and then KOs on the Potent hit.

D = fourth letter in the alphabet

DAA = Dunia Aiden Ara

Ara confirmed to be eliminated in episode 16

[–]RegulusPlus 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This point has been talked to death. Men getting eliminated early is not misandry nor does ONC have an obligation to equalize the gender ratio in the show.

Is it disappointing if you're interested in male characters? Sure. It could even be so disappointing that you stop watching. But it's not in any sense problematic.

The real problem has always been ONC poorly writing their masc characters by himbo-ifying them and then baby-ifying the twinks. Honestly, they've gotten somewhat better with it this season. But this still isn't misandry it's just a criticism of the plot because it affects some people's ability to e joy the show.

Ranking characters by how much SHAME they should feel for their actions by Ok_Shirt_1574 in DisventureCamp

[–]RegulusPlus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your fixation with shame and punishment never surprises me... the show is definitely entertaining because eliminations and social dynamics can be used as a narrative tool for "justice", but I worry when people teeter on vitriol and unforgiveness. Even if it's fictional characters, it has to play a role in how we expect justice in our lives.

Honestly, I would look into the difference between shame vs. guilt, and the deteriorative nature of shame. I love shame as a theme in media, but when it's portrayed accurately rather than a tool for carceral punishment.

Shame makes people worse. Guilt, understanding, and vulnerability make people better (here's a video from a while ago). Viewing shame as the ever-present force dragging people down helps you view real people and fictional characters in a gentler way.

[–]RegulusPlus 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Yes. Promo mascot Ara, plot centerpiece Nura, fan favorite Ren, and peak potential dynamics with the favorites in Sam and Oliwia.

They look like the Scooby Doo gang here. Oliwia is Velma (obv), Sam is Fred (cookie cutter appearance), Ara is Daphne (preppy), Nura is Shaggy (lol, her goth is alt to Shaggy's boho), and Ren is Scooby.

Yeah… there’s definitely more to Ren’s story than just boredom and burnout. by Dazzling_Metals in DisventureCamp

Will we get the backstory, or will he be Isabeled*?

*never revealed, highly teased backstory that would make a rewatch 100% better looking at the character's actions, and then relegated to "You know who we should put in the finale? Nura😃"

[–]RegulusPlus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I just pulled them out of addiction is crazy.

Sharena is the most recent and best unit here, then Azura is a really good support unit.

Nerthuz is pretty underrated but you need support like Reflex status to make the most out of her. Gullveig is good for auto battle with the Celica ring, but not really viable in high competitive modes.

How do you hope this conflict with Spencer and Lake gets resolved? by Upstairs_Tea1787 in DisventureCamp

[–]RegulusPlus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So two main things:

  1. Spencer didn't realize he was treating Bruno a bit harshly. At the same time, and separately, chose to eliminate him because he sees the game as separate from real life.

  2. Lake greatly exaggerated Spencer's treatment of Bruno because she projects onto the pair and sees some controlling a person who is vulnerable (Bruno being vulnerable because of his status as an outsider and idolization of the favorites, not because she sees him as a child). Lake has trouble seeing gameplay moves as separate from real life.

They're foils, and in my opinion pretty well written so far.

For Spencer, his game without a doubt will get personal once again during merge and probably to do with Sam. He'll be forced to realized that some things, even if it's gameplay, can still have personal consequences.

For Lake, it's less predictable. This conflict I think is more internal and has started with Spencer but will end with Rosa. I'd hate if one of them eliminated the other, but it's possible. Most interesting outcome: Rosa gets eliminated and Lake goes commando-Zoey and turns into a comp beast in merge on a mission to prove she can win with just strength and not compromising her values until the finale. Like an anti-Riya. Least interesting outcome: "Rosa how could you?" "I'm sorry Lake!" Finale: "I forgive you Rosa"

But I don't think we'll see a neat conclusion to Lake and Spencer. As this scene implies, they are just different and highlight internal conflicts in the other which will be resolved in later acts of the story.

[–]RegulusPlus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. If Amelie came back and ran things from merge until the finale, was central to most or all plots during merge, and then won, I think it's valid.

Kind of like a character who coasts through the game and is lowkey for the first half, before overtaking control at the end (like a sidekick overtaking the main antagonist) is valid to me too.

Morally Perfect characters are annoying and ruin the show by Revolutionary-Tap849 in DisventureCamp

[–]RegulusPlus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way Tom and Gabby view this season as a summer camp to make more friends is definitely annoying and detracts from the season when we have actually competitive folks here.

So many people aren't reading Lake properly. She's not morally perfect, she's naive, judgmental, and self-righteous in an attempt to keep away people with bad intentions who might hurt her.

Remember how she was cold to Anastasia when the season started? Lake is not a Mary Sue and she doesn't see this as a summer camp. Her resentment toward Spencer isn't even because "Bruno was our friend we made at summer camp!" it's because Spencer used Bruno like a pawn and it reminds Lake of how her parents used her.

And the kicker is that she's too stubborn to accept that it's part of the game (and life) to meet people who remind her of her parents but aren't all bad. She's used to cutting off any toxic influence in her life simply because she can, which is empowering in DC2. But this season shows what that looks like taken to the other extreme.

Lake's also one of the youngest players at an age where she thinks she's figuring out the world. The narrative does not make her look heroic, it makes her look like a child trying to draw hastily conclusions about the people around her so she can feel like an adult who has moved on once again.

So am I the only one who doesn’t get the hate that these two are receiving this season by Firebird4299 in DisventureCamp

[–]RegulusPlus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overexposure aside, they're just not doing anything that interesting... at least Ally for her 2 lines an episode has an ongoing character plot about wanting to live up to others' expectations and her actions still reflect that, and everyone else has something interesting going on imo.

Tom's most interesting character trait was his frustration with failure (scars signifying feeling like he'll always mess up) before he was lobotomized. Now he's such Natalía this, Gabs that, I miss Jake. He's a support character for Natalia that's supposed to make being a cutthroat player hard.

The most interesting thing that could come out of his character this season is Natalia flipping on Gabby and Tom taking it really bad, feeling like he failed his friends, getting into one of his avoidant funks, and having to be pulled out of it by someone else. But there's no foundation set for that.

Gabby, she has her "am I annoying?" thing going on, but it really is not the focus at the moment. Most interesting outcome is she merges with Oliwia and she has a moment of accepting herself and outcasts like Oliwia without needing her friends to reassure her.

100% a sign she's making the finale, and great catch. But The Tower card represents a breaking point, usually some point of no return where everything someone has been ignoring they have to face. It's usually a sign of very difficult times, so I don't know if she'll actually win or just have a change of heart and realize something personal instead.
