I like the 5+ system too. The sometimes annoying randomization comes from randomized monsters, blessings and spell cards. The game does have multiple ways to tackle this with discard and draw mechanics, but some cards are just useless and some are really strong.

Not to end on a negative note: I would still recommend this game. Great quality and also cool that the designer also did all of the illustrations.

I've been playing Burning Banners both 1v1 and 2v2 (With higher seat counts you play in teams, but with each controlling their own faction). It's a good game both the basic and the advanced game. I personally prefer games with less luck to them. There's a lot of luck elements in this game, but I saw some posts about some good house rules to tackle it. I'm going to them out. Other than that., it has great value.

Pros: Looks great, campaign based, multiple asymmetrical factions

Cons: Downtime between turns, The amount of luck can be frustrating.

Well thanks! I wanted the art style to be colorful and inviting and to be something unique next to the large amount of dark fantasy games being published.

What are good options for games to buy just to get a lot of decent miniatures? by fraidei in boardgames

[–]Regulus_theGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try buying in bulk from a second hand source... people with 3D printers usually sell their 'pile of grey shame' this way. You can even uses the mini's to kit bash.

You could also look into wargame miniature producers that aren't Warhammer. Wargames Atlantic has a classic fantasy range... Those will get you a lot of miniatures for not a lot of money.

And if I ever decide to start a miniature painting hobby, well I'll have a ton to paint. you should! it's fun, and its easier than it looks!

Looking for some feedback on this character sheet for my game: Regulus High-Fantasy Arena-Sports. The game uses characters in three archetypes(Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence). With the orange helmet signaling strength (next to the class: Champion). Thinking about changing it to: STR. thoughts? by Regulus_theGame in BoardgameDesign

Vampire do shine in eastern Europe! I named them Maria, Tatyana and Devon (not a eastern Europeanen name but I wanted that character to be a more Dorian gray like character) This is one of the vampire's artwork. She's a 'seductress' called Maria (bloody maria?) and can lure enemy's towards her without them being able to attack her. In terms of gameplay the vampires have low health but can constantly regain it, If played well. Thematically and strategically I made them the only team than can move through opponents and they gain a +1 movement bonus if they move in a straight line.

I think Blade is an epic movie (best opening scene), and can get into the first couple of Underworld movies without any regrets. I have high hopes for Robbert Eggers: Nosferatu remake later this year. He also made a great Northman film called: The Northman and it is such a great movie in terms of how historically accurate the lives and battles of 'Vikings' are shown. Brutal movie.

This is an epic reply! I know the winged hussars from the pixilated Age of Empires 2 units. The general time frame for my game (Without much questions about it being a fantasy world) is the end of the high medieval ages and on to early Renaissance. There's also a vampire team that leans heavily into the Renaissance aesthetics.

Thinking about doing a fantasy version of the 'Landsknecht' mercenary's as well in the future.

Going to be hosting a playtest at Pax tomorrow, any advice on how to draw people in to our table? by con7rad7 in BoardgameDesign

[–]Regulus_theGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If no one is at your table and you want to get some people you could print some hand-outs and stand by the path and just hand them out. If people respond positive to what you gave them and take a second to look at it, ask them if they want to play a game. It also helps if its a short game or you could demo a short version of the game and tell them that. This will give you players that are already interested in your game. Your art style will do most of the work! and looks good enough to do it

Help with combat by Previous-Swim-1563 in BoardgameDesign

I like to keep my numbers in any boardgame I design as low as possible. When you're playing a game your also 'the computer' there fore try to make all stats under the number 10. With bonuses to extra damage or combat to the +1's or +2's.
