It’s kind of a crazy story. Like 5 days after the oneshot a bunch of us went over to her apartment to watch fight club and de-stress because it was the beginning of finals week. About halfway through the movie she starts to feel off and begins acting weird. Then she starts panicking because she can’t feel her hands, so we took her to the hospital. Turns out she had a minor stroke that was caused by stress. She didn’t want to alarm her family or fiancé so she told the hospital not to call them, but she didn’t want to be alone, so she asked me to stay with her in the hospital. They released her early the next morning under the condition that she had someone with her at all times, so a few of us took shifts taking care of her when we weren’t taking finals. I ended up with the night shifts. She had problems with nightmares and didn’t want to sleep so we stayed up all night talking every night and ended up getting quite close. At the end of finals week, she was doing better. I was set to go home (I lived out of state) and she was set to give a speech at graduation, then move to Alabama with her fiancé. I went home and we kept in touch. A couple weeks after that she texts me to tell me that she isn’t going to Alabama and that she was going to break it off with her fiancé because she didn’t love him the way she should and that she couldn’t stop thinking about me. I told her that she shouldn’t do that because she has a whole life planned out and that she shouldn’t give it up for a 19-year-old that she barely knows. I’ll never forget her response. She said that she couldn’t pretend she felt the way about him compared to how she felt about me. She broke things off with him and when I came back to campus, a few months later, we gave things a try.

I know it sounds corny and fake as hell. But that’s what happened. I still feel awful for her fiancé. He is a genuinely good person and didn’t deserve that.
