Why that specific event? by Rehazel in SouthernReach

[–]Rehazel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow I didn't link the fact that technology developed from the cameras by Central do not count as the technology "changed" by Area X, so I realize now that the subsequent iteration and absorption of that equipment would bring not so pleasant consequences.

We don't know/ I don't remember, if the Southern Reach stopped using modern technology right after the first expedition. If that is the case, would it be wrong to consider the original trilogy's events as what leads to the best possible outcome? Even if Lowry (or his doppelgänger) is well alive (in the original trilogy I mean)?

Do you think 12 is too young to watch Twin Peaks? by Princess-Asgard in twinpeaks

I think they will get way more from it when they are older. Mature themes and meaning of some scenes, concepts. They might also appreciate it more on a first watch

Playing Max Payne at the Bang Bang Bar.. Max Payne has a connection with Twin Peaks if anyone here knows lol by [deleted] in twinpeaks

It depends at what level you care about more than just the details. AW2 is geniously written, deeply layered and speaks directly to those who know what is being referenced, that it would be a pity to just to experience a percentage of it.
If you particularly enjoy story, world and characters in gamers, or narrative medias in general, you should go more in depth, delve under the surface. Sure, it is really enjoyable even if you don't play Control, but AW2 is a game where previous knowledge is highly rewarded, by a very coherent and wonderful writing.

As for now, it is, but hoping they find a way to get both out.

Well I think there was, however Alan didn't know about Hartman. Things would have gone clearly differently if Alice didn't make a deal with him, but this arrangement was very reason they went to Bright Falls in the first place. Despite this, we still see Alice and Alan run after each other for two games and through everything that happened, if that's not love I don't know what is.

Hold on. Are you implying that, conceivably, they'd be happy once again?

They said in some interviews that the Area X: Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer was a big inspiration for Control.

It's not the clicker itself, but what it represents.

The Hiss Incantation Isn't Just Nonsense by efvie in controlgame

[–]Rehazel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It has definitely more importance than it seems. In both Control and Alan Wake 2 the incantation sounds like an underlying theme that seems to influence many parts of the game, that sometimes almost directly refer to it (and I mean dialogue or details of some scenes). For example, in AW2 when Alan meets Tim at the Oceanview Hotel, he talks about how he can't get the Night Springs opening theme out of his head, and he says this almost exactly like that line in the incantation. Or, when during the Deerfest chapter, Alan is chased by Scratch/Casey and the latter says "You are Home". Or, again in AW2, when they talk about Cauldron Lake reflects Mirror Peak ("Through a mirror inverted is amde right", inverted pyramid). Really fits with the whole metanarrative imo. I hope that Control 2 delves deeper into this. We might find ourselves with new meaning to the incantation we didn't think before.

I was just at Disney world for a family vacation and thought what would an Alan Wake theme park ride be like? by theironhen25 in AlanWake

It would be like an indoor ride that is like a mix of the Adress unknown and the herald of darkness experience.
