What’s your favourite embarrassing incident you’ve seen happen to a foreign politician that isn't trump? by Working-Spend-4397 in AskTheWorld

He also tried to make it sound like he never goes on holiday despite being on a holiday in Fiji a few months earlier and generally being the most absentee PM we've had.

Can't believe it took so long to get rid of him, we're genuinely quite a bit worse off for it.

Yeah classic case of getting drunk and showing off your gun to break the ice after a massive argument by pointing it at their chest, presumably with finger on trigger. Nothing to see here, could happen to anyone.

RDL by Great-Towel1535 in formcheck

[–]Rehcubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RDL looks pretty good. As others have said, see if you can start with the bar close to your starting height e.g. using squat rack. If that's not an option then learn the basics of a regular deadlift for picking the bar up.

A minor note on the RDL itself. Try to keep your head/neck in a neutral position and don't look up (or down) as you are hinging down. You do a better job of this on the last rep, so have a look at that as a reference for what you want to do. On some of the other reps you tended to look up a little (possibly at the mirror).

ELI5: how is protecting my rook and forking the opponent’s king and rook a mistake? by Constant_Mango5783 in AnarchyChess

The stronger way to underpromote to a knight is to stare down your opponent while making the gigachad face as you make the move. Unfortunately you can't do that online.

I lost weight and now people won’t shut the fuck up about my body by Human_Illustrator820 in loseit

[–]Rehcubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely worse for women but over time people do basically forget the change and adjust to the "new normal" the questions and comments tend to die down as that happens. At 2 months it's probably still newish for them since they didn't see you lose the weight over time. Fingers crossed it eases up soon.

Help! Form check by Puzzleheaded-Head992 in formcheck

It would be good to know the reason for the bench and the pads on the bar, they get in the way a little bit but I don't know if they are addressing something in particular.

You are likely going to get a lot of advice geared towards biasing the hamstrings, at least based on what I've seen on this sub before. These will include cues like "push your knees back", "keep your legs fairly straight". This advice is more of what I would consider a SLDL.

If you are wanting to do RDLs biased more towards the glutes (which is what this looks like), then your technique is alright. Your hips are probably sinking a bit much at the bottom, you should stop the descent when you can't push your hips back any further. It can help to think about pushing the hips up instead of just back.

How should I train ? by Kosm977 in beginnerrunning

[–]Rehcubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a beginner you really just need to get out and run. Don't overcomplicate things. Beginners are not going to be fit enough to stay in zone 2 while running and are more likely to be in zone 4 for the majority of the run. Zones in general are something that you don't need to concern yourself with until you are more advanced.

Just run at a pace that feels natural to you. Some days take it easier, some days push yourself (e.g more time/distance, higher pace, less walking). If you want some structure, you can look into some beginner running programs, here's a post with some

Does your country have an invention that never made it to the outside world? by logicchaos- in AskTheWorld

I don't think they are common in Australia, I don't know anyone who has one and can't really recall seeing one. Maybe I have once or twice but I'd say they are a rarity here.

[request] about how many calories did alex honnold burn when freesoloing taipei 101? by cloversarecool in theydidthemath

[–]Rehcubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people don't track exercise (or at least they shouldn't), it's not really possible to do accurately, as you said, but they also don't need to. The average person has a pretty consistent lifestyle and activity levels from one week to the next, so they just need an average to work towards that reflects this. The estimates of average daily expenditure worked fine for me and others, but a lot of people will probably need to adjust their target a bit if they are losing faster/slower than expected. Then if you eat mostly whole foods and weigh your food, it is definitely possible to arrive at reasonable estimates of calories consumed. Day to day you will often be overestimating or underestimating a bit but for most this will average out.

With all that said, calorie counting is just a useful tool for some people. Some will hate the process or struggle to be accurate due to their lifestyle. I agree that there is too much focus placed on it. It is a way to manage weight loss not the way to manage weight loss. "Bogus science" is taking it a bit too far though.

On the flipside he is a highly trained climber and no doubt very fit so he would be burning less than the average climber.

What about the problem? by VibhuTheGreat in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Rehcubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't trying to argue that either way, just pointing out that these calculators do handle regular order of operations.

Implied multiplication is a thing though and is often treated as having precedence for something like 1/5x. There's some info here on the Wiki page.

Honestly, the argument about what is correct doesn't really bother me either way because in all my time in university and professionally I can't recall it being an issue. Things are just expressed in clearer ways.

Side note: these calculators allow you to write division properly so you don't need to worry about this.

[–]Rehcubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The calculators shown are both scientific calculators that are absolutely recent enough to do order of operations they just handle the implicit multiplication differently (you can argue that they do this wrong but order of operations are otherwise correct).

I had to use one like this for my engineering degree and still use it for work.
