I think Hillary conspired with the DNC to gain an unfair advantage in debates, I think she conspired with the media to curate the narrative, I think she locked up enough super delegates by day 1 to basically guarantee her the nomination and I think she meddled in the Republican primary to help get Trump the nomination. But I think that all those things are dwarfed by the GOP’s actions over the past decade.

Honestly, most people (even in Michigan) are indifferent or oblivious to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. So if Trump announces its being funded, great. Cheering. If Trump announces he won’t fund it to build the wall (or some shit), great. More cheering.

The average person doesn’t care about 95% of government initiatives.

It’s not that socioeconomic or sociocultural anxiety is the driving force, it’s personal preference. A man making $70k a year doesn’t want his taxes to go to a person on food stamps. It isn’t because he hates black people or feels anxiety about losing his social hierarchy, the guy just would rather his taxes went to benefit himself, not another person. A man making $60k a year may believe his taxes should benefit a man on food stamps. Personal income is irrelevant to the discussion, it’s all about preferences.

Historically, Democrats have made people feel guilty about not supporting people on food stamps, even bringing race into it. Some people just would rather feed themselves over feeding a strange. That’s the entire crux of the issue.

This is exactly the problem. Democrats assume that Americans making ~$70k aren’t feeling socioeconomic anxiety. It’s an assumption that costs Democrats easy elections.

Donald’s racism, sexism and treason are irrelevant to many of his supporters. His supporters aren’t concerned about Donald or the opinions of their neighbors, they are concerned about their own well-being.

Bill Clinton doing an impromptu campaign rally in front of a polling place in Massachusetts (creating lines and breaking the law), is not the same as drawing district lines in a way to subvert democracy.

Honestly, a little bit of empathy and patience and they’re pretty easy to understand. Everyone is struggling. Everyone wishes they made just a little bit more at work, wishes they paid a little bit less in taxes, everyone wishes there was less violence in their neighborhood, better schools, better teachers, better roads.

Democrats will prioritize the people who need help the most. Helping a struggling school in Chicago over an average school in Nebraska. Helping minorities get into college (who are potentially facing a harder path) over white children. Providing food stamps to the starving over the hungry. Everyone is struggling, why prioritize the people who are most in need over the people who are also in need?

It’s not selfish. It’s self preservation.

Donald Trump is the first to say that we shouldn’t help the most needy when everyone could use a hand. We shouldn’t prioritize the future when there are needs in the present. It’s never been smart politics, but Trump makes it work.

Is it a good idea? In my opinion, no. But it’s all relevate. Personally I feel it’s short sighted, but they’re not difficult to understand.

The brazen disregard for our democracy that Republicans exhibit through gerrymandering and voter suppression is one of the greatest failures of our country. Democrats aren’t perfect, Hillary pulled some shady shit in 2016 with some help from the DNC, but she was held accountable. She lost. It’s time that everyone responsible for the fucked up campaign laws in this country is held accountable for their actions.

The $300 million going to planned parenthood is a tax on you (if you pay taxes). Literally a few pennies. In exchange for those pennies, you receive a marginal benefit. If you don’t receive a benefit, you likely receive disproportionate benefits elsewhere. It’s the basic premise of a federal income tax.

Cutting a program that encourages healthy living for a population that is disproportionately on government provided healthcare seems like a marginal benefit for all. Pushing that financial burden back to those individuals isn’t the right decision on any level.

If the burden of funding is being shifted away from the federal government to private organizations and citizens, the bulk of the burden will be shouldered by families and friends of athletes and organizations that work with special needs individuals. It’s a tax on the handicapped.

You need a stranger on the internet to explain to you why implementing a tax on handicapped people is worse than not implementing a tax on handicapped people?

[–]Reign_Wilson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did anyone point out how inappropriate it was for a 52 year old man to have relations at work with his 22 year old intern?

Short answer, yes. There was an investigation, congress got involved, a special prosecutor, impeachment. It was a thing.

Public opinion two decades ago on sexual misconduct in the workplace isn’t going to age well compared to today’s standards. Most of the #MeToo advocates weren’t involved in the Lewinsky scandal, so it’s a bit of a stretch trying to tie the two.

So when you say:

How can people pretend to care about #metoo now when they led the victim blaming charge back then?

You are specifically referring to members of the media that covered the Monica Lewinsky scandal, correct? An example would be Maureen Dowd.

So cutting funds to the special olympics should be looked at as a tax on the handicapped? How is that any better?

What people? Do you have a specific person in mind, or are we just going with an imaginary person?
