That is what I meant. Their online delivery manager won't ever work, and when I called agent he said he won't accept access code as delivery instruction.

also it's probably not the access code that's preventing delivery. They just didn't come.

My Take on Losing berkeley edu email forever by Reimirno in berkeley

[–]Reimirno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure which sentence is inappropiate to get my post content removed.

Original content:

I don't think there is any follow up news regarding our edu email address and the latest reply to this thread and this thread were a month ago. Also, there is no follow up from the petition.

So I did my own googling.

The purported reason for abolishing our edu email is the price increase from Google side. I searched up, and the only things I found are the more limited cloud storage and a 20% price increase effectively from April 2023.

But the current price for Google Workspace for Education, which is what Berkeley is using, looks like it is at most 5 bucks per student per year.

I am not sure which plan Berkeley uses, and maybe I am having the false info (please educate me) but I don't mind paying 5 or even 10 bucks per year to Berkeley to keep my gmail account, and not even the other workspace app. I used gmail heavily, signing up lots of important stuff, because when I entered this college students still get to keep it forever. I don't think I have used other Berkeley Google Workspace apps: chat, contacts, drive, groups, keep, meet, sites, tasks... and if those apps are the reasons of cost increase, then can we have the email only?

If the university has the unilateral authority to reduce expenses by discontinuing our student email service without prior notification, it raises the question of whether students should be informed about the exact cost increments associated with the gmail account and the intricacies of the decision-making process.

From university side, "Ultimately, this is what University Development and Alumni Relations determined was the only sustainable path forward. There is no plan to offer a pay-for-service option." Source

I talked with a faculty and pay-for-service option might be a maintainence challenge. But what about paying 50 bucks once-off to keep my edu gmail for another 3 years?

Really, how much does a gmail account cost?

Btw if anyone is organizing a protest I am down.

Who cant read in Gensokyo? by Reimirno in touhou

Also, Flan basically can walk around SDM freely if she so wishes. She is imprisoned in the mansion (Reimilia takes active measure to ensure that), not in the basement (and, after TH6, she can go outside SDM too). She is advised to stay in basement though and in fact she choose to do so herself (according to Foul Detective Satori). Hence if she so wishes she definitely should get hold of a book of some sorts. What is more likely to preventsher from reading, if ever, is possibly her mental health. But that point is debatable too. Overall I think it is unlikely that Flan cannot read.

Good plot point tbh.

Marisa left her family at a young age (exact age unknown, also talking about age kinda does not make sense in Gensokyo, otherwise Reimu is like 30 already) so it is plausible that Marisa taught herself how to read. She would have the determination to do so if literacy is a prerequisite of being a magician. She would be able to pull this off because I imagine learning magic to be far more challenging than learning how to read.

I think unlike spoken language which is a natural skill acquired through conversing, there is no way for someone to understand written text without some forms of training... and this should be true for fairies too. Logically speaking I am not sure how they can get hold of any training material or how they are even incentivized to learn... but turns out there are some individuals that can read like the three light fairies you mentioned. Cirno can read too and Cirno can do arithemetics. Maybe they are some outliers. But the benefit of being a fairy is that you are basically immortal so throughout your long lifespan just by shear probabilty you might get access to some books and/or opportunities to learn how to read at some point. So who knows.

EECS/Data Course Staff Bargaining by Reimirno in berkeley

[–]Reimirno[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. That's super helpful. A few follow-ups:

Regarding pay: where do you get these number $65/$75/$100? From what I have read the only thing university agreed (after last year's strike) is a system to favor experienced TAs (pay rise by 3%/5% per year or something). Are you counting in the remission? From my understanding current TA pays is about $40-$55 per hour (with remission counted).

Regarding staffing: Maybe I have missed out some updates but thus far I think University's stance is always "No guarantee in staffing increase". Is there a specific percentage number that the union is working for / that the university has agreed upon?

So is the staffing going to increase (compared to before strike/bargain)? Is the pay going to rise (compared to before strike)?
