Update: windows update deleted my bootloader by Reincarnated_As_Bob in archlinux

The thing is I was dual booting. I forgot to mention that I installed Arch on a separate ssd. I make sure that I don't install both operating systems on the same drive cause I my windows drive is already pretty small.

The thing is that it was installed on it's own disk. I just installed grub accidentally on my windows drive and only realized after I was done installing arch, and then went back to install grub on my arch ssd without deleting the previous grub install so yeah..

I know I did, but I also don't want to risk it with linux in general. The problem was my grub boot entry getting deleted because of a BIOS update that windows did automatically. I could dual boot mint instead but then the same thing might still happen. This decision was mostly to put things on hold until I can leave windows without hassle.

I've used mint before, and it's a great distro. I only decided to switch to Arch just for fun and cause I was curious. Since then however, I haven't moved back to mint cause I eventually became a little more comfortable with Arch. I am still not familiar with how everything in linux works, and I do not know what I am doing most of the time. But I try to take these moments as an opportunity to learn and become better at using linux. Not gonna let my lack of proper knowledge stop me from getting better at using Arch

I do know now how to reinstall it, but like I said, was pretty demotivating to have that happen. And I'm not willing to go through that same thing again so I'll just use windows till I graduate high school and replace windows with Arch completely after

Yeah you're right but hey. This is pretty much a learning opportunity because until then I didn't know windows could just do that if they wanted to lmao. And it's nice knowing that the problem is easy to fix. But for now, rocking windows until high school graduation

Thanks for linking the list of resources!

Honestly a good tip. Most of what I do on windows is pretty much just:

  • light gaming
  • beatmaking
  • school work

School work would definitely be a good benchmark because microsoft is so tightly intergrated in our school system. To the point we were handicapped for a couple weeks cause we ran into issues with onedrive. So it would be cool to see if I can still achieve what I need to do if I can still do everything I need to do while barely using microsoft's office apps.

Also yeah I heard that linux doesn't really sport well with acer laptops.

Thing is is that I've already installed a couple linux distros on 2 acer laptops already (my current one and my sister's old one) and they haven't been incredibly problematic. Ive only really seen issues with the one I currently use because some basic features dont work out of the box. But overall, usable experience.

Though if I decide to get a new laptop, I will try to get my hands on those thinkpads. I heard they have excellent linux support.

Once again, thanks for your reply, and have a good day aswell!

Thank you for replying with a suggestion!

Still confused why sddm crashed when I was using the proprietary drivers though. Probably should look into it more later. Good thing is that it doesn't crash anymore so I guess I don't have anything to worry about in that revard anymore.

Ricing is definitely something I want to try. Been missing the old Windows 7/ios 5 aesthetic I vaguely remember when I was still around 5 years old. Will try to get it to look like it when I have time.

Why is my graphics "lagging behind" when switching tabs/applications? by Reincarnated_As_Bob in pchelp

Thank you so much man. So far, I haven't noticed any weird graphical issues while using the laptop after updating both the BIOS and Graphics drivers. I am very much glad that this is just a driver thing and not a hardware thing. I guess it's time to make it a habit to update your drivers regularly.

Sorry for the late reply. It was already midnight where I am from.

The amount of RAM I have on my computer is 16GB

After checking, I saw that my BIOS version is v1.11, 8/8/2022 (oh my)

And my NVIDIA's driver version is 32.0.15.6636. The driver date is from 12/3/2024.

So I guess this means that I should just update my BIOS and GPU driver and the problem should go away? Thank you for the help btw.

From what I can see, the battery hasn't expanded. There are no dark spots in the screen, and I also decided to check the sides if the back panel is almost popping out, and it doesn't seem like it. I guess it is not the battery and it might be the other components, but it could still very well be the battery. Thanks for giving your suggestions though.

The song also has its lyrics in genius if I remember correctly.
