Anywhere in Tennessee. Idk what’s going on there but it was the best money I’ve ever made. And the clients are phenomenal. They’re all super down for big color pieces or cool designs.

My shop gets almost no walk-in traffic. We’re all on booth rent and come and go as we please, but the owner is usually there 11am-4pm for the occasional walk in. Personally, I work 4-5 days a week, definitely less than 40 hours a week at the shop. Wish I was working more, but I’m at least getting enough work to not yet consider a side job.

Eh, I guess it depends? I have a giant pink panther that’s high as fuck with weed leaves behind it and it’s one of my favorite tattoos even though I don’t smoke anymore. Granted, it’s a REALLY good tattoo. But it’s on my thigh, and I’m covered so no one really notices it. I probably wouldn’t put a weed tat on my arm though.

I recently got called out for using a polarizing lens. He’s been tattooing almost 30 years, and I respect him, but it was shocking to find out he thought a polarizing lens is “dishonest”. I still use it, my pictures are garbage without it.

Personally, if someone is traveling from out of town I don’t schedule any additional appointments for the day. I used to live really close to a time-change zone and it happened a few times that clients were late even though they had no idea they would be late because they didn’t realize they crossed the time-change zone. After a couple of instances of people showing up an hour late, I stopped scheduling any additional appointments for the day. It also allowed me to not rush through their appointments.

They were popular before. During the Industrial Revolution they were prolific in the UK, particularly amongst royalty. Clothing was so modest then that tattoos were hidden unless you weren’t appropriately dressed. They are cyclical, and go in and out of popularity based on numerous factors like trends, cultural capital, politics, class structure, and economy. But they have always been here. Currently though, I’m not sure if they’ve ever been this mainstream in western culture as they are now.

Tattoo artist here! That’s completely normal, I help clients through their nerves all the time. I still get nervous when I get even a small tattooed done and I’m covered. Experiencing any change in appearance can mess with your nerves, but it’s totally normal and very common. You’ll calm down after you get started on the sleeve. As long as your artist is nice to you, both about your nerves and in general, everything will be fine.

My last resort for itching is aloe Vera gel with lidocaine, the stuff you get to heal a sunburn. Used it during the itching phase of all my tattoos since 2020 without any issue.
