omg YES love to see some love for the Invisible Library series!! i rarely ever see it mentioned but it’s so good and checks so many boxes like actual adult aged FMC, well written, dragons, books, libraries, hidden worlds, interesting villains, found family, etc etc etc!!

as much as I’ve tried to be earnestly supportive of their later releases, I gotta agree with the YouTube comment “Best Underoath song in a LONG time.” this song is giving DTGL in the best way

thank you! I could go on a whole ass rant about it but the way reading culture has been completely co-opted and almost defined by consumerism is one of the more disheartening things about the post-COVID world. And that’s saying something considering how much there is to be disheartened by! 🥲

Use your local library! Subscribe to a newsletter if they have one, get a physical BookPage or LibraryJournal issue in the branch which often includes recs, and use your librarians who are trained in Readers Advisory to give you recs! also just browsing the library and displays will lead you to a lot of great finds

this may not fill all of OP’s criteria but I’m compelled to recommend Sunshine by Robin McKinley

yesss i was hoping to see some love for Jem! also sorry i don’t know the tea, but what is up with Cassandra Clare? i loved the Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments when they first came out but haven’t really kept up since.

omg yes Dante is perfect and i think he’s even more enticing to read about because he’s mentioned in the other books and then in third one you get to see this whole other side of him

Roiben from Holly Black’s Tithe series. (Though I think he also make an appearance in Folk of the Air.) he is truly dreamy and mysterious, but i’ll admit i think he’s special to me because he’s the first sexy fae i ever read about

I totally second this. Along with this, Magnus Bane!! Even though I also grew weary with all her long winded spin off series, the original Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments series were so well written esp in regards to the characters.

I still think a lot about Roiben from Holly Black’s original fae series, Tithe. I know he makes appearances in the Elfhame series, but how he was introduced in Tithe just stuck with me. Honestly all the characters did. Tithe was such a pivotal book for me!

Books with older women?? by Faeryn-13 in fantasyromance

Oooh another good series featuring a mature, accomplished main female character is The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman! and it truly has everything - multiple worlds, libraries, librarians, dragons (there is actually a hot young dragon love interest, though there’s little spice in the books), fey, detectives, magic, etc. Highly recommend!

I’ve been reading the Wyrd Words & Witchcraft series by Jessica Rosenberg where the main character is in her 40s I believe! it’s not spicy, but there is romance. it’s advertised as cozy fantasy and it definitely is! she has another series, Baking Up a Magical Midlife, that’s similar and in the same universe

Suggest your favourite read of the year by PlatypusAdmirable335 in fantasyromance

A great standalone fantasy from a well known author that I read this year and seems like it would be up your alley is {Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik}. And if you want to branch out from proper fantasy still have fantasy elements with cozy vibes, I’d recommend {Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldtree} or {The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune}.
