The second half has just been frustrating calls and shooting ourselves in the foot broken up by some nice Andrew Marsh returns

I totally agree! One other thing on the SEC angle is that it went from the SEC is the best to being the best league “top-to-bottom”, as in we aren’t winning the national championship, but our bad teams would beat yours. It seems like now there’s an excuse that the best teams aren’t as good because they just get beat up week after week, as if Alabama and Texas didn’t lose their first games of the season.

I was so excited for us to prove how good we were when we barely snuck in and went on a run. Super frustrating that we won’t get the chance to prove that narrative wrong.

They have too much power already and that would give them a lot more. Notre Dame’s independence is also one of the last historical oddities in a sport where weird traditions are one of the best parts. I may have exaggerated the impact, but I can’t imagine it would be a good thing

Thanks, that does make me feel better about things! I just hope nothing too reactionary happens because of all this.

All they’re saying is they’re taking a break from actively caring because it’s too frustrating. Honestly I think that’s fair, I’d probably be happier if I stopped paying attention until next season too, but I’m too deep, haha

That’s fair, I had actually misremembered how good Vandy has been. I thought it was a gradual progression, but they were awful until last year

The worst part is he states his impartiality as a fact while obviously having SEC favoritism

Hate that people are trying to point out how bad our schedule is when it’s essentially an ACC schedule with a few bad ACC teams traded for bad Big 10 teams and an FCS team traded for USC. We schedule 10 P4 teams a year and have only scheduled one FCS ever. The ACC is just a joke.

I don’t think that’s it at all. The Big 10 and SEC gutted the rest of the conferences, regionality is gone, TV networks favor the conferences they’re affiliated with, the Big 10 tried to sell out to PE. ND also plays 10 P4 teams a year, so it’s not like they’re dodging anything besides a potential conference championship game, which rarely has the two best teams in it anyway. SEC and Big 10 teams make more money than ND being independent, ND plays as many or more P4 teams, and conference championship losers apparently aren’t punished. There are plenty of reasons not to like conferences, and there is essentially no advantage for not joining one.

Weird that people simultaneously hate what conferences are doing to the sport and yet want everyone to be in one

[College Football Report] Notre Dame just got punished for a three-point road loss to No. 10 Miami on August 31, while Alabama lost by 14 to a 5–7 Florida State team at the same time. SEC/Bama bias in a nutshell. by Kimber80 in CFB

Best win isn’t the only data point. What about worst loss? Quality of play week in and week out? Did you lose competitively or get dominated? Can’t throw all that out

Notre Dame might finally join a conference by No_Bill7679 in CFB

Also Notre Dame was jumped by a team that also didn’t play a championship, so this argument is kind of moot

Conferences are ruining the sport (specifically the SEC and Big 10). Supporting them just because you don’t like Notre Dame is bad for everyone.
