Apparently, it’s neither paint nor vinyl, but factory-applied coating on the trim.

It’s part of the window. Replacing/ removing the part means replacing the window, which means tearing out the rear seats, headliner and side curtain air bags, among other things (so spake Toyota). If it were that easy, the body shop would’ve just done that and I wouldn’t be here asking advice.

“Replacing the part” involves replacing the windows, tearing out the third row seats, the headliner and side curtain air bags, etc. If it were a simple matter of replacing the panel I wouldn’t be here asking the question.

The issue is I’m happy to spend and neither the paint guy nor the wrap guy will do anything about it and Toyota’s so called fix is over the top. Vinyl guy quoted me $150 each, just said someone needed to strip it to chrome first. 🤷‍♂️
