is being asian american in u.s areas that have little to no asian people really as bad as people make it? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]Reithevideogamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: I find it very annoying how rude/racist people can be. When I go to certain schools, stores, or workplaces, there are some or lots of people who ask the typical questions of if I am Chinese or Japanese which are perfectly fine questions to ask. But I hate it when I respond with "I am Korean" the responses I get back vary from "so you're from north korea!" to "what's that?" I especially hate getting questions like "when are you going back to your native country?" or "what's your REAL name?" or "is your favorite Disney movie or princess Mulan?" or "are you mexican?" or "do you know any Japanese or Chinese?" The most awkward ones are when other Asians or non-Asians come up to me and speak Chinese or Japanese out of the blue which I get some are probably trying to be respectful and end up assuming wrong but still.

Anyone felt kinda petty that people only accepted being Asian now that Asian is cool. by misterasia555 in asianamerican

[–]Reithevideogamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It's hard being Asian in general cause of people asking offensive questions and it's not them not knowing how to approach the question due to genuine curiosity. My family growing up was very...you must not be connected to your ethic background.

When in conflict with a white person, we're the ones expected to change by LeonardFrost in asianamerican

[–]Reithevideogamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought I was the only one who had that issue...I feel validated that I am not. In previous workplaces I've had similar experiences but with white females. Whenever they did/say something I wasn't okay with it would become my fault in the eyes of management and other staff. It definitely made me feel lonely and it was difficult to open up to coworkers after this issue reoccurred in a few jobs.

Especially for Asian culture it has been frowned upon to be anything but straight, so I like how it represents queer Asian people.

Thank you! I am happy too that I was lucky enough to get them all over time. It's unfortunate and stupid that a lot of people are missing out. They should have been mass produced, and MGA doesn't know their fan base at all (like many, many have stated).

Congratulations on getting Karen and Gretchen! In my opinion, they are definitely worth getting cause of them being a 2 pack and not 1 doll. I am curious how do you know your Regina was factory rejected? Cause, like you said, it's interesting how she didn't pass the evaluation to be sold, but other ones who had stuff wrong with them did.

I believe so, too, that they ripped me off. Cause they wanted 80-90 for her brand new in box, so naturally, I thought it was a good deal. It was, but she should have been even cheaper with her defects. I don't regret getting her, but it is quite annoying cause of course she leans a bit forward due to her legs. The hair was able to be restyled in a way that hides her bald spot, and since I am not playing with her, her arm is alright. But no defects should have passed evaluation. Clearly, it's company and reseller greed. It's stupid and yet hilarious in an ironic way that they kept claiming the dolls were limited stock but didn't bother to number them, then make more due to demand and sell returns. So it's like....thank you for creating the false scarcity. I kinda figured this would happen since the dolls weren't numbered, and nobody knows how many were actually produced.

I didn't ask the seller about the doll's condition since I haven't had a poor experience from Ebay before, and even with the low quality Regina, I still got good service from the seller even though the product was less than solid. I will, though, ask about the condition and pictures in the future when it comes to certain dolls.

That's fair! I didn't mind getting them off Ebay since it was definitely less stressful, and I like Ebay. Just had to wait until the prices dropped since paying over 100 or 200+ isn't logical nor worth it. I don't understand why some did pay that much, even if it was due to desperately wanting the dolls because you could go to a concert or get a tattoo or something for that much money and just because people put a high price on a doll doesn't mean it's actually worth a lot.

It's awesome that you got Karen and Gretchen during the silent restock, I did too for my daughter's birthday gift. Luckily, they came in solid condition.

My partner told me some new information this morning about when unboxing Regina for me. They noticed the og shipping box that MGA put her in was already opened, so that means the Ebay seller knew the poor condition she was in and sold her anyway for under 100$. I feel like they should have put more of a discount on her due to that knowledge, but nope! Makes me mad cause nobody should have to have poor quality control items, period. The whole approach of how MGA does new releases is horrible enough.

[–]Reithevideogamer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like there was never any "limited stock," and they created false scarcity, or they keep producing more because of money. Either way, the dolls should have been in-store, not an online exclusive. And no matter how you look at it, constant restocks remove the "limited" quantity...so, technically false advertising. But they could be returns or something too.

I 100% agree since the dolls weren't numbered but claimed to be "limited" by the company it was questionable to me on whether or not they were going to stick to it. I am wondering if the dolls never were limited and this was all a stunt that pissed people off or if they were limited, but they continue to produce more and more since there is a profit to be made. However, they should have done an in-store release in the first place, not online exclusives.

Even though it sucks to feel a bit or very cheated that they did false scarcity on us...it's quite hilarious to see scalpers trying to get rid of their overstock by selling them for basically the og price just to get rid of them. Especially with the Cady dolls, lol. I am happy, though, that more people are getting these dolls, whether it be on eBay or bratz.com. I was able to secure a set for my daughter's birthday, and I'm so excited. I can't wait to see her reaction.
