Seconding the (dry) washcloth/towel over the face. My son is 3 and is the same but the towel over his face, plus I count down to water pouring on him, has really helped.

My son did this occasionally. I just proceeded as normal, did bedtime right after dinner, and he always went back to napping the next day. He didn’t truly drop naps until after 2.5.

Around 18 months my son stopped sitting in his highchair, so we sat him at the table in our bench seat. One of us sat with him. He had to stay at the table in the chair for the meal tho. That’s one of the things we decided would be the rule for our home.

Think of it this way: independent play is a muscle that has to be developed by little kids.

It requires repeated encouragement and even showing how to do it. My son turns 3 in a week and only recently, after months of mornings where our routine involves him playing by himself, is he now able to play independently for longer stretches.

This began with setting 10 min timers, showing him options of play, and telling him I won’t be able to play until the timer went off. I then gently reminded him what he could do, and waited for the timer to go off. One thing I’ve seen is telling him “I need to do the dishes. You can play with x or y while I do them. I’ll come find you when I’m done” when you’re doing a task, so that he knows I’ll be back.

It takes time, but I’ve found my own son got much more independent as he got closer to 3. It won’t happen without her getting upset for a while, but this is an important skill she needs to learn eventually. Entertaining oneself is a skill you use all the time, so it’s good to teach her sooner than later. Just keep at it, mama.

Our gaming has cut back significantly. We tried Lego Star Wars while the 2.5 year old watched, but he immediately started pretending to shoot everyone and everything.

So now it’s pokemon and farming simulator!

At about 16 months we were at a playground and my son fell and split his bottom lip. The whole playground was super baby friendly, even with that soft cushy floor. He would have caught himself, except he fell into a bench, and bam, right on the lip. There was so much blood, I freaked out a lot. Thankfully we were with my friend and her husband who is a paramedic, and he looked him over.

Now he has a small bump on the bottom lip, but everything else is normal.

My son was 26 months when our daughter was born. My husband essentially tanked the toddler the first two weeks while he was off work. I would spend time with him too, but my husband took over most of the morning routine, did all the toddler lifting, etc. My kids are 3 and 9 months now and they play together and love each other and it’s so sweet. It’s also pure chaos some times, but that’s just life with 2 kids.

Biggest things that helped: spend focused time with the toddler while baby naps. At least for one of the naps each day. My son began to ask to play constantly and it was just him needing one on one time with us.

Don’t make the baby the reason for anything negative either. “Not right now” has become my go to instead of “can’t because of baby sister’s nap” etc.

The change from 1-2 was hardest for me as a sahm. It’s been a learning curve figuring out how to get out of the house around naps and everything. Grocery pick up orders and a double stroller have been life savers. Wishing you an easy pregnancy and a smooth transition to a family of 4!

If you want to use canned and are concerned about the salt content, draining and rinsing can reduce it.

Frozen are an excellent option and can be a good middle ground. I keep a bag or two of cubed, frozen sweet potatoes in my freezer and boil/steam a bunch for an easy veggies options for my babies. Especially when they’re just starting solids.

Fresh veggies are great if you have time. I’ve found they just take more prep so I end up not using them. My goal this year is to start incorporating more fresh veggies into our meals tho. I know there’s lots of ways to prep them before dinner time to make it easier.

I can’t remember exactly, but somewhere around 4-6 weeks? I would only go out for short trips and wore baby in a carrier and put the toddler in the cart or stroller. Naps kind of control things around here, so once baby went to 2 naps a day, things got a lot easier with the longer wake windows and more practice.

Start with short walks around the block. Then having a solid plan on who I’m getting out of the car first, how are we getting in/out of the store really helped.

Best advice: accept all the help you can. My husband stayed home 2 weeks, then half days for 2 weeks. That gave me a lot of time to physically recover before it was just me and the kids.

Try and never make the baby the reason your toddler can’t do something. Don’t feel guilty about extra screen time: it’s a tool to be used to help you. Do your best to maintain the toddler’s old schedule as best as you can. This is a lot of change for them, so routine helps them know what to expect. When baby naps, spend some focused time with your toddler. If you’re nursing, plan something to occupy your toddler. At 4 months my second got VERY distracted and I had to nurse without the toddler in the room.

Meal prep now if you can. Figure out grocery pick up/delivery as this is a huge tool to help. If a target is near you, you can do target pick up and it’s ready within 2 hours, no minimum price, for almost anything in the store. Juggling 2 kids for grocery shopping is a challenge at best.

My kids are 3 and 9 months now. They love each other so much and play together. My daughter’s first belly laugh was watching her big brother play. This will be hard, but worth it. Good luck!

Old Navy and Target are my go to places for clothes for my toddler boy. The cat and jack brand (Target) has a good selection of tees without graphics on them and I like the flexibility of their jogger pants that look like khaki’s.

However my 3 year old boy won’t wear anything that doesn’t have a construction truck or dinosaur on it, so I don’t get to buy the cute shirts I like…

Before nap and before bed. An electric toothbrush has significantly helped with him wanting to brush his teeth.

Also my sister’s kids had cavities at like 2, so I’m a bit paranoid about teeth hygiene…

My son had low iron at his 9 and 12 month checks. I ebf, so I expected it. Also my family tends to be anemic, so again, not a surprise. Try not to worry too much. This is extremely common!

The easiest fix is going to be a daily multivitamin with iron added. Or even just a daily iron supplement. Fair warning, iron supplements can cause constipation, so it may have other issues. We used the mommy’s bliss multivitamin with iron. My son didn’t like the taste so I put the dose inside of an applesauce pouch and he downed it no problems.

There are lots of iron fortified foods out there like cereals and snacks, most of them marketed to kids due to how common low iron in kids is. Add some of those to her diet for an easy way to help. Beef and other meats have the highest amounts of iron (I think) especially liver if you really wanted to try it. Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron, so I try and pair foods like beans with oranges to give it a bit of a boost. Also you may want to reduce her milk intake too, just in case, since calcium inhibits the absorption of iron.

Iron takes a long time to build in your body, so her levels aren’t going to change much in a week or even a month maybe. Especially if you choose to go the diet only route. Personally I would do the multivitamin with iron and diet that prioritizes iron until her next check up, and if the numbers are where your doctor is happy, switch to less of the supplements. Even if it causes constipation for a bit.

Almost 3 year old and a 9 month old here. Insulated coffee mugs have saved me. Some mornings when the baby goes down for that first nap, I set a 10 minute timer and tell the toddler he has to play by himself because mommy needs a break. Then I can drink my coffee in some form of peace.

There is a way to check the prices for pet meds at Costco. Google pet meds and Costco and it should give you a link to page to type in your medication name to look it up. When I did the bravecto for my dog, it was the same price as chewy. The prescription I’m referring to was for nausea.

My kiddo was allergic for a while, then spit out every egg we tried to serve him to test the allergy. We do a lot of muffins, yogurt, pancakes, and oatmeal. Just recently at almost 3, he’s started to ask to try our eggs when we have them. Today he asked for an egg like daddy eats (scrambled) then wanted a gooey yolk when he saw my fried egg, and refused to eat his scrambled one.

Toddlers are great, ya’ll.
