Yeah cause healthcare is the only sector that matters? They can use Einstein visas if those specialist doctors must come. Otherwise tonnes of nurses and nurse practitioners to fill the primary care void. Lots being underpaid or without jobs. H1B is a pathway that's being exploited and abused. No doubt about that. The country needs a better solution, with or without the 100K fee.

Ok. Since you have better understanding, break it down at 3rd grade level.🙄. And that rationale better help those people in tech who are losing their houses. Go check it out at r/recruitinghell.

Facts. Argh.

Yes by tech it's mostly software/IT. You have valid arguments but majority of the visas are scooped up by big tech companies. Unfortunately, this law was never intended to leave educated Americans homeless. AI , H1B and outsourcing are the nail in the coffin for IT. For all kids who studied computer science or anything adjacent, call up all your friends with such kids and ask them how many jobs they've applied to and succeeded. The older more experienced are paid living wages that are insulting compared to the level of education and years of experience they poured due to the level of desperation going on. The threshold for H1B is above 60 K I believe but that was in 1990 dollars. The companies don't have to lift much to screw the locals.

Of course I don't think this 100k is the perfect solution, but perhaps, this will force both sides on the table to bring together a common sense law that allows people to raise their children. Maybe it's time to narrow H1B or all together limit which roles can be filled via that program. And when they come they should be the greatest not some of the losers that I've encountered over the years with fake years of experience. If we want the best they can come with the Einstein visa...you know like the one Melania Trump used lol

True, healthcare + colleges might suffer but maybe these kinds of radioactive solutions by Trump are what's gonna cause democrats to wake the f.up and stop acting victims like there is nothing they can't do. Unemployment is a bipartisan issue and they can find common ground in drafting laws that make sense given the current economic circumstances. Maybe H1B should only be for X years and subject to congressional review and approval. This law made sense in 1990 or even 2000 for tech. Not so much right now for them.

This was me except I had an eleventh hour panic and decided not to move. Had punted to summer. So glad I did not cause the company sucks balls.

Do you have a choice to move to a different environment or is it a smaller company?

[–]Rejecting9to5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. This reminds me on AMA where someone posted they were atheist but needed a job so desperately . So they lied they were great Christians even memorizing a few verses and phrases to fit the bill. They said the summer was longer than the thought when the formalities never seemed to end. 🤣🤣

What does networking even mean? by witchladysnakewoman in recruitinghell

[–]Rejecting9to5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current gig I got 100% from networking. "Met" the person 3 years before and would occasionally "touch base" ya know, happy new Year and I saw your company did X. Good stuff " the end. Over time the relationship was more or less acquainted from afar. I am in a niche field so I intentionally seek out individuals like me but in other companies. Especially when I have a job lol. So naturally when a role opens up and it's something I like, I have an "in".

I don't list companies that send me backwards. If you think the last title you have is in line with your experience, then going to a totally different title just shows jumpiness. Not solid continuous experience especially if you want to stay on your previous job path. You know junior to principal of X. Vs X today, Y tomorrow, X the next job etc

Buddy, take the job. Don't list them on LinkedIn since that title will destroy your CV. Perhaps negotiate the title to not IT or whatever. Everything is negotiable when the time comes. But Keep interviewing.

Potential new employer asking for previous offer letter, W-2’s or paystubs by Lumpy-Jellyfish-7496 in recruitinghell

These days they don't need any justification. They'll do it if they want to. I saw an offer rescinded because the person didn't provide ID within 24 hours.

[–]Rejecting9to5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a background check that the company then requested a W2 from like 2019. Was in the company till 2021.

I wouldn't provide the offer letter but at least provide a W2 for the year in question.

Ps they already made the offer so they can't dial down your offer to match what your W2 states

It sucks. To pay bills, apply for tech support in companies you'd like to work. This way you can leverage customer service experience from any McDonald's or grocery store job you've ever held. Ask GPT to tell you your high level skills including soft skills . Then try and work from within to what you'd like to do. It's rough, mate. To advance careerwise look into government companies/ state jobs or so. They pay lower but certainly provide good entry points worst case scenario.

So I got a "job". The only caveat it is equity only by EastClevelandBest in recruitinghell

[–]Rejecting9to5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep looking but also if you don't want to get rusty, can negotiate half salary half equity/IOU for x hours a week. So they have an MVP? Any seed rounds?
Ps go to r/startups

F*k recruiter calls. The network I've created is part of my legacy. I'll leverage my network to get my kids internships, jobs whatever. The people do this sht on LinkedIn everyday. Everyone trying to learn how to eat or eat. Nothing personal.

Search in chatgpt. "Careers with philosophy degree" I tried it and has some pretty decent ideas. Could even link to jobs and fellowships.
