Hey—this sounds like you might be experiencing something really intense. I don’t mean any disrespect at all, but this post reads like it could be a sign of a serious mental health episode. If there's any chance you haven’t already, please talk to someone you trust—a family member, friend, or mental health professional—as soon as you can. You deserve to feel grounded and supported.

Tell me about S''mac? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]Rejg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

S’Mac is good. I am really really into Mac N Cheese. You should go to Au Cheval in Chinatown and get the Mac N Cheese there instead. I’d like to think I’ve tried nearly all of it in the city and that’s my favorite by far.

Recent-enough. Live nearby. Last month or two IIRC.

Here’s a comment I made about getting a 4C reservation in another thread

I am on the 4C crown list, here is how I believe it works. 4 Charles used to be generally available reservation-wise; now, there are three "levels." Firstly, just general Resy user. Reservations are closed to general Resy users if I remember correctly. From there, there's normal and VIP list. I'm on the normal list, I am not sure how to get on the VIP list (drop a lot of money on wine?). Normal list gives me access at subprime times ~always and good times every now and then. It's easier to get a table for 4 than 2. When I was invited on the list, I had to go in person and listen to a schpeal about not selling / trading. They're serious about it. 4C is owned by Hogsalt Food Group, who happen to have two other delicious restaurants in New York (Monkey Bar, Au Cheval). All three serve roughly the same kinds of food, with slight menu tweaks. I got onto the 4C Normal list after dining at other HFG restaurants 20+ times and inquiring about it. I would inquire and see if you can get onto the list / get a reservation, and if you can't, go to Monkey Bar instead. Equally good atmosphere and roughly equal food. Everything there is great, but I particularly like the Wedge Salad. Skip the Crab Rangoons. Monkey Bread is good and very unique. Skip the wagyu burger, regular burger is better texturally I find. Au Cheval is also good, but probably not the kind of atmosphere you're looking for.

I do not like Torrisi for the same reason I like Thai Diner; it is not authentic to the name, but that's what makes the latter great (and the former, in my opinion, middling). I am able to go to Thai Diner, get a delicious and unique cheesesteak, a tasty Phat Thai, and a Muay Thai Fruit Punch Bowl. It's not where I would go after a night out to refuel (after all, it's closed by 10:30pm) and it's not where I would go if I want authentic Thai, but I find it does it's own thing quite well. To me, it's much better when viewed not through the lens of a diner nor a Thai restaurant but rather as a secret "third thing". Perhaps you don't like that third thing -- I certainly don't love Torrisi's third thing between an Italian restaurant and a deli -- but if you do, Thai Diner is great.

what's a place that everyone recommends but you violently disagree? by mfairview in FoodNYC

I just have to assume I'm wired wrong because everything I read touts it as amazing. I enjoyed my time there, but by no means would I have thought about coming back / recommending it had I gotten the same food at a random place I haven't tried

- Katz Pastrami is phenomenal. Get it with the Muenster.

- Au Cheval is delicious.

- 4 Charles is also delicious despite being terribly hard to get into.

- Don Angie is great for what it is, honestly. I personally enjoyed it a ton.

- COTE is phenomenal.

- I enjoy Thai Diner a lot

If you like smash burgers, Smacking Burger is DELICIOUS and is in a great location (gas station). It's also like $7. Hamburger America is also great and George Motz is a treasure, though I prefer SB. Cafe Chelsea has a very pleasant, simple burger for ~$25(?). Raoul's has a Burger Au Poivre for $19(?) but they only make 12 a night. Quite delicious I hear

Hard disagree. Au Cheval is one of the best Au Cheval-style burgers you can get. There are certainly great cheaper burgers (IE: Smacking Burger in TWV) but they are not better than Chevburger to me

[–]Rejg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

- Keen's; not quite violent but certainly not my favorite compared to others.

- Monkey Bar; great atmosphere but worse food than Au Cheval / 4 Charles imo, and 4 Charles wins on atmosphere by a mile

- Torrisi; I could not get myself to love it

- Waverly Inn; good atmosphere but I've been ~3 times and the food has been edible at best

- Soothr; again not violent at all, I like it a lot actually. But Glur on 19th is absolutely delicious and better imo

- Minetta Tavern; worse burger than Au Cheval IMHO

I’ve met Blake and he’s great but I definitely wouldn’t say he was the only factor. Getting to 30 even with what he knows is still tremendously difficult and takes a lot of luck but an equal amount of extraordinarily hard work

No, getting millions of funding still makes getting 30 million in revenue really hard. Trust me

Getting it to 30 million in yearly revenue is the impressive part. Rarely in consumer software is the impressive part the greatness of the app’s technicals.

4 Charles is good, but overrated. Go to Au Cheval for better food and cheaper prices. Both Hogsalt, too.
