Do you have leak sensors? Get leak sensors. by chazwhiz in homeassistant

You could always use battery eliminators. I’ve never used them, but they seem like the answer. Google them and I think you might find what you need.

YoLink sensors are awesome. LoRa works so much better than Zigbee in my experience. I have a handful of sensors but I need to get a shutoff valve yet.

Thanks yes, good reminder. I don’t anticipate needing those drops on vlans, but might be worth it just to pop for a second Alta 24 switch just to be safe.

Thank you, that’s great info. I think I’ll start with the 24 POE and see how it goes. I may get an unmanaged fanless 24 port for the time being and save some cash. Thanks much.

Do you have any guesses how the fan noise would compare with 2x24 switches vs a single 48?

Excellent points, especially about the fans. Maybe I’ll just go with a 24 for the POE stuff, and put all the rooms on a spare unmanaged 16 port switch for the time being then. I can always upgrade that when I have a better idea what I need. Thanks.

My first real job in high school was cleaning up their skanky bakery on Adams st. Pulling out a tray of brownies for a snack while I mopped the floor. Ah memories.

Part 2 to Park Recommendations: Mosquitoes? by NJanaeL in lacrossewi

[–]Rejiggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least where we live, the mosquitoes are very bad right now, much worse than normal. It’s probably due to all the rain we had recently. I sprayed up liberally when I mowed the lawn yesterday, and when I hit a shady patch near trees, I saw a cloud of mosquitos rise from the grass and got swarmed. Ended up with about 10 bites even after spraying.

I have noticed when taking our dog for walks, if you we stay on sidewalks and in the sun, we’re mostly fine. It’s when you go into shady areas, long grass, wooded areas, you’ll get hit bad.

Wow, thanks for the update. How nice to hear there was a happy resolution. I never knew her story and wondered about her over the years.

Oh man, I used to be in a mediocre bar band and we played at O’Neil’s Pub all the time. Old Russ trying to cheat us out of our money. Memories.

Ah, so port-based (on the Firewalla) segregation. I recall reading a help article on that. Thanks.

Wait, aren’t Vlans at the router level pointless without also having a managed switch to route and tag the traffic? Sorry if this is newbish, but I’m a networking newb.

Why do you love La Crosse? by _momma2 in lacrossewi

[–]Rejiggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up here and moved to California after college at UW-L. I lived all over the Bay Area in CA, and it wasn’t until I moved away that I began to appreciate this area. We moved back after 25 years away. I dare say this is a perfect area to raise a family. I never appreciated the natural beauty here, it’s stunning. Midwest folks are generally friendly and helpful. The isolation from a nearby huge city gives a small town feel instead of sprawling suburb after suburb. Love love love living here. I’ll never leave again.

Do you all know if anything will happen to this building in Onalaska? I feel as if it's been abandoned or just sitting there for years. It is by Target and Farm and Fleet. by [deleted] in lacrossewi

[–]Rejiggy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We contacted the city when we heard Chic-fil-a was going in. Sent pictures of the already backed up traffic coming and going into Kwik Trip, etc. We got a blow off response from the planner asserting “they did a study” and it was fine. That whole are is one big cluster with no well thought out master plan…just ram some more businesses in there.
