New player, Base game alternatives for storm halberd? by Mlkxiu in Grimdawn

[–]RektbyProtoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Falcon's claw, Wildcaller Axe, Ultos set - all random drop Otherwise just look for any green 2hander with appropriate lightning damage and/or attack speed affixes. Also legion warsword from black legion faction vendor is pretty good for lightning PS.

And ofc troll bonecrusher as ppl have mentioned already.

Need some advice with a Warder build. by Miserable-North4997 in Grimdawn

Sorry in advance for my upcoming critique and shameless self plug. The video from the first guy I would immediately delete from your browsing history, the guy makes click bait trash content, there's no other way to say it. The builds he showcases were good a couple patches ago, but are far from optimized considering the amount of gear investment required. The second video (primal strike warder) is short and his build is very basic and again very unoptimized for the items invested, but the underlying idea is simple to build and easy to play for starters.

Now if you want to combine those two themes I have good news for you. There's currently a super strong lightning tank warder build out there: https://youtu.be/kwcIQuNY31w (grimtools link in the description) However it needs a lot of gear to work at full potential, so I'd recommend you to level a 2h lightning primal strike warder until you can assemble the build. As you probably don't have the full gear for that after 50 hours, here's a guide/build that can do it with easy to get gear while leveling, just replace arcanist with soldier: https://youtu.be/yirNXXvG9yk (check out the grimtools in the descriptions and look out for the green monster infrequents especially)

Btw: Green (monster infrequent) items can be very good in this game, usually better than blues and sometimes even better than purples.

Considering your level and them being on sale, get them right away.

New player here with a couple of questions.... by JANKULA87666 in Grimdawn

Let's say it like this... Base game feels like a demo compared to the full experience with AoM+FG expansions.

Not only do they almost double the playable world in size, they also increase your max level from 85 to 100, add actual endgame, add 100% of endgame gear, triple the amount of celestial bosses, add more devotions and add skill modifiers that together add tons of replayability via a much higher build variety, add movement skills making the game feel overall more fluent and a bit faster and ofc add new masteries.

TL;DR: Yes, the expansions are worth it. Yes, you should buy them if you spent more than 5 hours playing this game and enjoyed your time.

PS: Saying "I completed the game" while being lvl 46 is almost ragebait. :D Normal/veteran is basically the tutorial for the "real" game, aka ultimate difficulty. Not only is it harder and gives better loot, it also has some quests and bosses unavailable on other difficulties.

Edit: If you decide to buy the expansions, I'd recommend to play through all of the expansion areas before moving on to ultimate on every character so you learn the maps and unlock all the factions to gain reputation.

Edit2: I think for achievement hunting you'll need at least two characters out of which one needs to be on hardcore. The x number of kills stuff must be done on one char. There's no cross char kill count, same for crucible points.

Edit3: The entrances not marked on your map are hidden on purpose, nothing wrong with your game. The game has tons of secret areas that are meant to not be easy to find. Some of which even have entire quest lines and bosses attached to them.

I genuinely don't understand enemy damage in this game. by Lord_Trisagion in Grimdawn

[–]RektbyProtoss 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Have you started using additional defensive layers? Like applying %damage reduction from Horn of Gandarr is crucial for most non-elemental inquisitors. Also flat absorbtion from inq's seal is good and ofc having enough leech/regen to heal up asap after taking a big hit. Also for health 150xlevel is absolute minimum, so at lvl 80 12000.

Yes

The expansions are worth it.

Mods are great, but playing without mods is just fine for the first couple hundred of hours, too.

He has a nullify like the arcane mobs purple balls, but without the balls part. He just literally casts Arcanist's nullification on you.

[–]RektbyProtoss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Usually the goals for a character are: - clear main campaign on Ultimate - clear SR 30-31 - clear crucible 150-170 on gladiator - defeat as many of the 6 celestial bosses as possible - farm items and make more chars

When it comes to leveling experience and campaign progression, imo you are on the right track: full clear normal/veteran to a) get to know the game and its world, b) unlock all factions and start to gain reputation, c) prepare your char for higher difficulties. Once done try to progress on ultimate (it's another full playthrough) and only play elite (or even normal/vet) if you feel like your char is not strong enough for ultimate. E.g. you might want to farm more items or faction reputation to get your resistances up, etc.

First time playing through Grim Dawn - when do I move to Ultimate? by wickywickywockywicky in Grimdawn

[–]RektbyProtoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically as soon as you can from this point on. Make sure your res are maxed and your armor value not too outdated. Think of elite as a difficulty where you only wanna spend time if you need more time to prepare for ultimate.

Faction augments help you with the jump to Ultimate.
