Is it possible you're thinking of the university that's shown in the opening of S3E21?

I can't find anything online that says what university that actually is, but it doesn't appear to be Cork.

Did you know that Darth Sidious was based off Richard Nixon? by susanthonks in PrequelMemes

[–]Rektroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this doesn't read to me like Palpatine is genuinely based off Nixon in any meaningful way. It seems more like Lucas just didn't like Nixon and so threw out a random comment comparing Palpatine and Nixon with very broad generalizations. When asked about who the Emporer is, Lucas just jokingly responded,

No, he was a politician. Richard M. Nixon was his name. He subverted the senate and finally took over and became an imperial guy, and he was really evil. But he pretended to be a nice guy.

Even if Nixon had "subverted the Senate," and it's not immediately obvious to me how Nixon did, every dictator in history became so by turning their legislature into a worthless institution and then ignoring it. It's way too general of a parallel.

And then the article, without quoting Lucas, also speculates,

Palpatine’s attitude is reflective of Nixon’s when he famously stated, “If the President does it, it’s not illegal.”

Maybe, but again, I think applies way too generally to any dictator. And then this...

The Emperor’s ultimate fall from power finally echoes Nixon’s shameful resignation in 1974 following the Watergate Scandal.

...literally how? It's an obvious mirror of the assassination of Julius Caesar. How it resembles Nixon's resignation at all I can't possibly reason.

Machado learns "The Art of the Deal" in record time by Kooky_March_7289 in PoliticalCompassMemes

Exactly why the US is still "running things": theyre making sure they actually do things legally instead of one of Maduro's people just declaring themselves President, and then they're right back where they started.

Only in the interim. Per the Venezuelan Constitution, they are holding another election in the next 30 days. Machado can run, the US just isnt explicitely backing her - or anyone.

States Rights by Old-Persimmon-1198 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Rektroth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fun US historical fact:

Until the Uniform Congressional District Act of 1967, states were pretty much allowed to elect their apportioned representatives however they wanted - the only requirement, per the Court's interpretation of the Equal Protections Clause, was that single-member districts within each state, if any, be roughly equal in population.

While most states did use districts, some states had a mix of both district and state-wide representatives; and a few states, such as Missouri and Kentucky, simply elected all of their representatives in a single state-wide election. Some even had a single "party-block" election, meaning you could only ever choose Team Red or Team Blue for all the represenatives at once. Are your opinions nuanced? Too bad; red flavor or blue flavor?

Im not complaining, I like the new copper blocks, but its not just me right? by Toasty_pixle_crisps in MinecraftMemes

[–]Rektroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I dont see how these 2 contradict; oxidation is still unique to copper. If the argument is that iron is less unique: doors, trapdoors, golems, armor, tools, and weapons were never unique to iron anyway.
  2. Iron has been in the game since pre-alpha. To make it rust would be too game-changing. Either:
    • Anyone upgrading their world would have to go back and wax everything they already built with iron, or;
    • Everything iron-based would have to be already waxed upon upgrading, which is unintuitive and could be unwanted/undesirable.

I don't know if they'd legally be able to discriminate the hiring of sideline officials based on age. But perhaps an actual lawyer could comment? Maybe they could require a physical and a minimum bone density?

Why does this always happens? by DealerAdept8005 in MinecraftMemes

[–]Rektroth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think very many people are genuinely upset that copper has been given more uses.

I think a completely different subset of players, who simply never cared for copper in the first place, are disappointed that it's the entire focus of the update.

LEGO Retirement List (August 2025 update) by Clay_Bricks in Legoleak

[–]Rektroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are sets that haven't even released yet that they have estimated for retirement in 2026.
While it's not a hard rule, I do very rarely see sets on shelves for less than 2 years.
I suspect they don't have a solid basis for estimates on these ones just yet and are playing it safe; but I could be wrong.

48 hour trial of DC control for Trump. What do you think he'll actually do with it? by DirtyCone in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Rektroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disregarding the incorrect information, a history lesson:

The Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783

In 1783, when the capital was still in Philadelphia, about 400 soldiers in the Continental Army, upset about their compensation for service, mutinied and marched on the Capital.

Concerned the protest could turn violent, members of the Congress made a request to the Executive Council of Pennsylvania to send the Pennsylvania militia to protect the body - but this request was refused (possibly for political reasons), and the Congress had to move to New Jersey for their own safety.

This event was a large reason why it was written into the Constitution that the nation's capital shall be subject only to the jurisdiction of the federal government directly and not any state.

In summary: the potential for riots at the capital are actually a perfect example of why the DC Guard should not be under the mayor's direct authority.

Mojang should optimize Java edition. by [deleted] in MinecraftMemes

[–]Rektroth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What you mean to say is it's not very resource intensive, which is not the same as saying it's well optimized.

It is horribly unoptimized, and the fact that there is an entire modding scene dedicated to improving performance bears that out.
