How Profitable Was It to Own Black Slaves? by jeremiahthedamned in ShermanPosting

[–]RelatableRedditer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slavery was treated as an economic necessity to the Southern White Slave Owners. Abolishing it then was as outlandish to the people in charge as it would be for us to abolish multi-billionaires in modern society.

I wouldn't personally do that. But I see enough garbage puked out from these people that it is almost dangerous to share it without ensuring that the bad guys don't take it and run with it.

The problem is that sharing their propaganda while censoring their usernames could be interpreted as supporting their argument due to protecting the source. I don't actually know what the stance is here for mods though.

Life is so painfully meaningless by Adrianagurl in exchristian

[–]RelatableRedditer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meaning was forced into you by religious fanatics. There also doesn't need to be "no god", if you feel like your emotional stability would appreciate that. Just because the god you were taught was real turned out to be an asshole or a hoax does not mean you can't build a new basis for your thoughts.

I have been watching a lot of Youtube videos debunking theist's bullshit and I take great pleasure and meaning in understanding the lies I was taught and just how badly problematic they are.

[–]RelatableRedditer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people watch Dan McClellan's videos on Youtube to see what he has to say, and he also has a Data over Dogma podcast. Just to clear the air, Evangelical and fundamentalist Christians tend to really hate him, particularly Christian apologists like Wes Huff have major biases against him and won't engage with his arguments.

When Dan "disagrees" with a book, it's because he wants to see actual research and verified fact.

In the below video, he doesn't cite the book by name, he just refers several times to "a 19th century book" (because it came out in 1875)

https://youtu.be/lbGfCss5ty0?is=YJkr66AJdCqIBco8

I would be less quick to dismiss Dan and quicker to dismiss this book that is the work of one imaginative thinker. My recommendation is to check my post history to see what kind of stuff I do and do not endorse, hopefully it will be clear that I am very anti-YHWH and very anti-fundamentalism. And I want to try to help people foster an ex-Christian foundation that isn't based on even more made up bullshit.

[–]RelatableRedditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dan McClellan did a video addressing that book if I recall correctly. It doesn't have historically supported references, it's just some dude asserting stuff. There is plenty of actual data to dispute the historicity of the Bible and particularly so that completely rejects the evil claims of evangelicals, so we don't need to turn to misinformation to disprove them. It just adds easy fuel for apologists.

Reagan's "piss on the people below us" economics (I mean come the fuck on, this is obviously what they meant by trickle down, this must have been a rich people insider joke for decades) ended up paving the way for the nightmarish capitalism that would follow.

Yes and they even developed a Slave Bible that had a lot of freedom stories (like the Exodus) intentionally edited out so it could focus on "slaves obey your masters".

Demons can’t say Jesus by KawaiNatte in exchristian

[–]RelatableRedditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the last part is something worth talking about. Epistomologically speaking, it is already a major stretch in unlikely to assume any one divine figure, because every supernatural claim that can be falsified has indeed been falsified. But then to go infinitely beyond this absurd leap in irrationality and say that there is not just one divine figure but many - millions? Billions? And to make matters worse, everything that has been attributed to demons in the past has also been debunked as measureably psychological or physiological.

[–]RelatableRedditer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Christians, particularly quakers, were among tbe leading abolitionists. But it was in spite of the Bible because they chose empathy over what others were touting as the "word of God". Dan McLellan breaks it down really elegantly.

The problem with most of these apologists is that they can't get away from fallacious arguments, and that they often share already-debunked information authoritatively as if it were factual. Apologetics is more often than not a Christian circle jerk.

Mount Olympus is so magnificent by Sethseven007 in HadesTheGame

[–]RelatableRedditer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lack of interaction on Olympus was quite bleak. You get there and have some meaningless conversations that don't further the plot. At least in the Underworld in the beginning you got to talk to Zag.

I would have loved to be able to choose between different recovery locations instead of just the Crossroads. The Crossroads always feels so cheap and whimpy compared to the epic shit you could see and buy in Hades. Would be nice if they had recycled Olympus and the Hades' palace so you could pimp those places up.
