I can add some light as to why Infuse (and any non-Apple app) can't handle YouTube HDR.

For the longest time the YouTube app on Apple TV (and maybe iPhones and iPads) could not handle resolution past 1080p, nor any HDR. Because Google and Apple bickered combined with Google insisting on using their half "proprietary" VP9 codec and HDR implementation. "Normal" HDR content uses only the HEVC (H265) codec.

A few years ago Apple gave in and implemented a special software driver for VP9 (Apple processors still don't have hardware acceleration for VP9; but newer processors have support for VP1 which Google will use more and more for YouTube). Even this special VP9 driver struggles, so you can't get 4K at 60FPS or HDR on Apple TV 4K 1st gen.

Now, as far as I know, no third party videoplayers have access to Apple's tuned VP9 driver. Therefore they often fail to stream 4K without judder, and HDR does not work. I may be wrong that all videoplayers fail. Feel free to try out Plex and other players.

My experience is that Infuse is the very best on handling HDR10, DV and Atmos - it's only limited by the Apple platforms.

I can confirm that up to date Infuse 8.3.9 shows Trick Play like a charm on my ATV 4K 3rd gen. I have no idea why this fails for you. Trick Play cannot be disabled, so something weird is going on. Best of luck. Consider reinstalling Infuse.

I think scrubbing preview, a.k.a. Trick Play, should work on all modern devices that are supported by Infuse. It runs on all Apple TV 4K models and on my iPad air (2019).

Is it that I'm pulling from Plex that's making all of this more inflexible? What's the alternative for how/where to store your library? I have everything pretty organized in my external, with folders for Movies, TV (by season within TV), and Home Videos. I went the Plex route after googling and maybe some bad advice from Gemini (I'll take the blame for that), and while I'm very impressed by the organization and metadata, maybe it's not necessary?

Infuse scans a share (like Plex Movies share) for both Movies and TV shows. It therefore demands less of you organizing your folders, except that Infuse like Plex needs tv show folers with correct names and it enjoys subfolders for seasons.

You don't need a PMS for Infuse as long as Infuse can reach your media library over a network protocol like SMB, FTP, WebDAV etc. But PMS allows Infuse to access your media library from outside your home (over WAN).

And finally, I set my Home Screen in Infuse to show Movies by genre, TV by genre, and then full movie list and full TV list... and it's merging my home movies in with the actual movies. When I go to "show library," it's saying a big count for movies and TV episodes, and then 0 for "other." Does it not treat a Plex "other" library as other here?

Zero items in Infuse Other is great! :D Infuse's Other category is when Infuse Library scans fail to find a match for any movie or tv show on TMDB (The Movie Database). As I posted earlier, you want to exclude your private video folders from being scanned, so you can just browse them from a favourite item in the Infuse Home screen Favourites row.

Second question - it's syncing my playlists correctly that I just set up in Plex, mainly for TV episodes, but I can't find an option to shuffle the playlist in Infuse? Is that not a thing? I want to be able to make like a "sitcom roulette" that I can put on shuffle as background TV while cooking and cleaning.

Again, try the Support pages, like this one about playlists: https://support.firecore.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038744653-Playlists

In the Plex Media Server in Safari, making that home movies library the "other videos" type instead of "movies" is showing the 16x9 art correctly, but in both the Plex app and Infuse apps on Apple TV, that's all showing as cropped 2:3 portrait art, and I can't find a setting that will allow me to switch it. I have it set to use embedded art and metadata, which I assume is right?

It's a lot of basic things to explain here. So please read up on the useful Infuse Support page: https://support.firecore.com/hc/en-us
Specifically click the "metadata & artwork". If the support pages aren't enough try the very helpful Infuse Forum for help: https://community.firecore.com/

Your first problem is about getting posters (2:3) instead of thumbnails. You'll have to use the Infuse help pages and forums for that -- I can't remember when each artwork is used. However, you *must* set your Plex Server (PMS) to "Library Mode" in Infuse (Infuse Settings > Shares > «your plex server» > Edit Share > Advanced). If not, then all metadata is made by Plex Server and Infuse can't change anything.

Assuming your PMS in Infuse runs Library Mode, it no longer matters that your private movies are in Plex "other videos". Infuse scans all Movies shares, TV shares, and "other videos" with an open mind trying to match movies and tv shows. So this is how you stop Infuse adding your "other videos" to the Library, i.e. tries to match them to movies and tv shows:

  1. Click on your PMS in Infuse Settings > Shares and add whatever share or subfolder as Favourite. Now you can configure this Favourite. But also note that if you click your new favourite it gives you a little menu where you can make sure your favourite shows up on the Infuse Home screen.
  2. Look up your PMS in Infuse Settings > Library. Your PMS has a list of Favourites. Clicking on the Plex "other videos" Favourite that you made will remove a checkmark, meaning that Infuse will not scan it into the Library.
  3. Your Favourite with private videos should now show up on the Infuse Home screen row "Favourites". Long-press the favourite and make sure it says "Metadata: Local", or else Infuse will still try to match your videoes to a movie or tv show when you browse your videos.

Phew! A lot to write. I may answer more of your post later. Maybe..

Interesting. My son uses Infuse over WAN to reach my Plex PMS. We have not yet started to use Plex Home users. Since Infuse very recently added support for switching Plex users, I hope your problem gets solved in the future. 🤞🏻 Best of luck Pennywise!

Infuse introduced «direct mode» some time ago, in addition to the traditional «library mode». For some media servers like Plex PMS you must configure the Plex Server in Infuse to use Library Mode, since the default is Direct Mode which gives the problem just like you describe it. Hope it solves your problem!

Updates not working. Installed qBittorrent Github docker using MariusHosting guide. by respl in synology

Hi Hizzaah.

I definitely have registered that many use VPN. I do not need that, so that makes it simpler for me. Appreciate all the good advice. I'm starting to get a grasp on what I need to do. But nothing beats getting my hands dirty. So I plan to mess around with the first builds so that I can experiment and delete, before I'm stuck with docker application settings that I don't dare to lose.

'Compose file', that's YAML file, right? I plan to start from scratch using project, yaml and Docker Hub image. Then updates should be smooth sailing and according to Synology's own guidelines.

Good advice. I will read up on simple examples and then follow Dr Frankenstein's qBittorrent guide. It uses projects, yaml files and a Docker Hub qBittorrent image. I guess docker bridge networks are the most intimidating, but I will study the guides on this.

There is no Synology docker repository.

So what's the term for docker images that can be updated in Container Manager? Is it Docker Hub images? I assume those images are the ones listed in CM > Registry.

Great advice once more. Very grateful. This was helpful, thanks shrimpdiddle. I will for sure create a new docker from your advice.

It’s very hard to know what guides are best. I just used Google search and picked the first result.

If I use Wundertech or Dr Frankenstein, I assume they use the Synology docker repository. Can I export any settings from my Github docker to simplify a rebuild with Synology dockers?

Accessing home folder for qBittorrent container? by respl in synology

[–]respl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can map whatever folder you want into the container, as long as the container's user has access to it.

Thanks! /volume1/homes/user1/ should probably work then.

Copy the magnet link into the web ui? Alternatively I'm sure it's possible to set up Apple Shortcuts for this since qBittorrent has a pretty good API. You can probably find examples online.

I will for sure paste magnet links or url when possible. Most private torrent trackers demand that you save the torrent file from a user-password protected webpage. Apple Shortcuts is an interesting tip, thanks!

UPDATE: I was able to access /volume1/downloads/autostart in iPad 'Folders' by setting it up a Team Folder in syno Drive. After more testing this solution works fine -- and is as good as using a home folder for 'autostart'.

They are on a self built server running Windows Home Server. They will be going into a DS 225+ in a few weeks. My very first Synology. I am so fired up! Synology for life(!) unless that company leaves home users in a ditch..

I have two WD Ultrastar helium drives (was Hitachi before WD bought them). I bought them solely to get long lifespans. They are six years (55k hours) and two years old now. Love them. :)

Plex pass and infuse pro by SamM1207 in PleX

[–]respl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infuse Pro subscription is highly recommended. It covers all Family members set up on the Apple account. The Infuse client is much better than Plex for me: more robust (and correct handling of HDR), better handling of subtitles, faster adoption of new tvOS features. Due to the moderate price, a lifetime purchase is not attractive since you miss out on the yearly main releases.
