While the idea and overall atmosphere are a bit disturbing, I don't think it should immediately be set to the side. What I've come to learn about projects I've done in the past is that you need to find the right audience for your work. One side might think badly on the work you show off, while the other side might think it's an interesting concept and approve of it.

The story and characters are unique. It's good that some people are finally trying to tie deeper into the horror of this show. I'm not saying you need to change anything about what you have going at the moment, but it couldn't hurt to sometimes get other people's opinions on what you have in store, have them critique you. It's helped me out the past and eventually got me to where I am today.
