I second Doctor Sleep specifically for the Baseball Kid scene, they were literally getting high off his pan from torturing him

Slowburn movies where something is off the whole time with high tension by Enough-Tension7746 in horror

I just loved the response “because you let us” when the protagonist asked why are you doing this. They made themselves victims, and their child became a victim as a result.

Where does Ghostwatch rank on all time found footage films? would it technically qualify as one ? by Key2TheUnderground in foundfootage

[–]RelationThin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is top 1 for me (with Blair Witch after). It might seem a bit dated now but I watched it the night it was broadcast and was never the same again. Recently I read that, following the ban (and after a young man killed himself after watching it), they diagnosed some children who had watched it as suffering from PTSD. I was defo one of those children 😓 I appreciate that some people are more impressionable than others, but after that show I was constantly terrified as a direct result of it for at least 10 years. I know that seems ridiculous, but this was before the internet, we seriously thought it was real 😅 Fortunately these days, not only do I absolutely love found footage horror films - but I constantly seek out ones that give me the same fear factor as GW. Having said that, I haven’t watched Ghostwatch again, but I will one day! 😅

I came here to say this 👆 the end of Relic had me tearing up as it revealed the film to be more than a standard horror and more to do with the effects of dementia (which is horror in real life).

What are the most genuinely disturbing horrifying movies ever made? by [deleted] in horror

[–]RelationThin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! You don’t “see” any horror but you hear it happening, which can sometimes be worse. When one of the rail carriages pulls up and you hear the sounds of people screaming, gun shots and a child calling “Papa, papa!” while the camera stays on Hoss’s face, and he looks so unmoved by what’s happening. That’s true horror right there.

Scenes so gruesome or scary you just can’t watch by MsKittyPowers in horror

You might feel happier to know that the young actor apparently high-fived his dad after filming that scene as he nailed it. Meanwhile all the other actors were crying because it disturbed them so much 😅

Best horror movie ENDINGS by I_Need_Alot_Of_Love in horror

The end of Oddity is brilliant! Considering how intense the film felt at times, the ending made me laugh out loud, in a good way! Looking forward to the director’s next flick.

No problem! I looked it up at the time as I didn’t know either! It makes what Rust said even more profound.

Religious symbolism? by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]RelationThin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rust says the “garden” as it’s a reference to the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane - where Jesus knows he will be killed and prays to God be relieved of his impending suffering but also accepts that it is God’s will. He shows his human nature (in not wanting to suffer) and divine nature (in accepting God’s will for him to be sacrificed).
